Rampant Town Hit 10!
The team travelled to Somerton for a meeting with Yeovil Town, a team new to the JpL this season. After a tight scrappy affair against Andover on the previous weekend the girls’ had been looking at ways to be more creative and accurate in attack. Sophia and Laila unavailable, Georgia and Aimee injured and Grace succumbing to late illness would all miss out. Back on the grass but this time on a good playing surface for football.
An even first 10 minutes, Wimborne creating the early chance, Brooke’s effort saved from Sienna’s clever wing play. The pattern became clear, the home team testing Lila, Eva, Maddie and Belle with long through balls at every opportunity. Wimborne were looking for control in midfield, bringing their wide players into the game, this proved a real challenge for the home team. With only 12 minutes played the pressure told, Sienna turning on the after burners and crossing again for Brooke, not the cleanest strike although enough to beat the home keeper and open the scoring (0-1). Like London buses, the next one wasn’t far away, Emilie forcing the loose ball home within 2 minutes from a corner kick (0-2). The team had broken free of the shackles, 25 minutes played and a Carly Ashleigh combination again setting Sienna free to square for Brooke to tap home at the second attempt (0-3). Brooke turned provider with Ashleigh going close to opening her account before the best move of the half with Izzy, Emilie and Carly with the touch play and Ash heading just wide. Although maybe one sided on chances created, a plucky Yeovil side were very competitive, had quality in their team and pace in attack that had unsettled the team on occasions, only great recovery play, especially from Eva and Lila meant for no goals against at the break. HT 0-3 In a still competitive second half, the team bagged an incredible seven more goals. Izzy swivelled and finished with her left foot 3 minutes after the break (0-4), Emilie pounced to drive home her second (0-5) prior to Izzy doing a very ‘Izzy thing’, scoring direct from a corner kick (0-6). The first half had been strong but with a very right sided attack, a more balanced second 45 minutes, moving the ball left and right meant for more options, Ashleigh on the left hand side a growing influence in the game. A lovely moment for Ash, scrapping in the penalty area to score the messiest of goals….she will not care a jot! (0-7). Emilie struck a deserved hat-trick with a sumptuous strike (0-8) before another first, Sophie’s goal bound header well saved….but by an out field player! Izzy handing her the ball to score the retaken penalty for her first of the season (0-9). A final goal, Brooke claiming her well deserved hat-trick goal from Sienna’s third assist of the game put the gloss on a dominant display (0-10).
FT: YTFC 0-10 WYFC
POM: Emilie (dominant and creative in central midfield glossed with a hat -trick of goals)
Summary: These comfortable sounding score-lines are built on solid foundations. Maisy in goal claiming another clean sheet for her and her defence, comfortable with ball in hand or on foot…nice and vocal also. Eva and Lila complimenting each other in the heart of defence, incredible recovery also when needed. Maddie and Belle resilient in defence and at times our first stage of attack. Sophie and an always improving Scarlett mopped up ahead of their defence and Jess, a player that just ‘gets on with it’, a talented team player. Carly with Emilie asked questions of a lively opponent, Ashleigh strong and aggressive on the LH side, Sienna, pacy, accurate and very influential today, a stunning hat-trick of assists. Izzy, along with Brooke reaping the rewards and bagging the goals that took the game away from their hosts. In ways, a strange game at times, Yeovil seemed feisty, pacy and had some talent in their ranks, it was just a good all round team performance that over-powered them today.
Very well played team!
