Town Too Strong For Shots!
The second meeting at The New Cuthbury for these two teams this season. In the cup group, the girls’ saw a commanding three goal lead pegged back by a resilient Aldershot, Emilie’s late strike giving the team a narrow win. On that day, the visiting goalkeeper had a big say in the match, keeping her team in the match with a flurry of first half saves.
A good tempo from the start, attacking from the left and right flanks, it looked a sharper team this week. From Jess’s assist it was then all about Izzy, rounding her defender and finishing well to give the girls’ a deserved lead within the first 10 mins (1-0). Emilie looked to have doubled the lead, her shot smartly turned away before Izzy linked with Liv, broke the defensive lines and when her low drive was saved she made no mistake from the rebound (2-0). The girls’ had generally limited the visitors’ possession in the final third only at times looking a little panicky in possession around their own penalty area. A desperate high cross into the area caused an anxious attempted clearance but the ball looped over a stranded Esme and into the goal (2-1). On the stroke of half time the own goal count was levelled, one of several brilliant Talulla corners finding the back of the goal net off of an unfortunate Andover defender (3–1). HT 3-1 Talulla and Kacey had taken the wide roles and the team were reaping rewards in these areas, 5 mins after the restart Kacey’s direct run into the area was halted by a mis-timed challenge, the ref, ‘Bez’ in no doubt in awarding the penalty. Liv fired the spot kick to the GKs left, giving her no chance (4-1). Talulla went close, linking well with Brooke prior to then making her next effort count, a superb low drive finding the bottom corner of the goal from the edge of the area (5-1). Tails were up and the team searched for more goals, Carly rattled the cross bar from Eva’s set up play before Lila strode up from left back to drive another unstoppable effort into the top corner, kissing the goalpost on the way in (6-1). On 66mins came the poachers goal, Emilie’s shot squirming through the GK’s grasp for Liv to prod her second (7-1). A very well deserved hat-trick goal with 7mins remaining, Izzy setting her sights and again finding the corner of the goal past a talented goalkeeper that was again given no chance at all (8–1). A conciliation goal from the visitors with 2mins remaining, a corner not cleared, giving an easy finish (8-2) that Aldershot deserved for hanging in and not letting heads drop.
