Wimborne Down Shots At Xmas!

The teams’ final game of 2024 was a home league match-up against Aldershot. The previous reverse fixture saw the girls’ run out 2-0 winners although in truth Aldershot were a real test on that day. A nice clear morning for a change, even the sun popping out to have a watch of this one. A squad of 14 was bolstered by Ashleigh’s return to the side after a few weeks without a run out for the team, good to have her back in the fold.

It was Ash that went closest in the goal scoring stakes within the first ten minutes, dribbling her way into the area, her shot just wide of the target. Ava drilled a long range free kick a yard over the cross bar as the girls looked to take advantage of a strong opening. On the stroke of 10 mins Emilie showed the strength to turn the ball over high up the pitch, advance and slot past the oncoming goalkeeper to open the scoring (1-0). The deserved lead was very short lived however, within five mins a tame effort from the visitors’ caught Maisy cold, squirming off the post and into the goal net (1-1). The team had worked a lot on general shape, covering danger but expansive in attack and again they looked solid as a unit, built on a strong defensive foundation the team strode forward in numbers and from a goalkeeping error Ashleigh was given the easy task of poking home for the teams second goal (2-1)….they were not about to give this lead up! More good build up between Emilie and Brooke still left Jess with plenty to do, her quick footwork and superb finish into the top RH corner of the goal really setting the team on their way (3-1). In recent weeks, Brooke had played a lone role up front against some very strong opposition, this can be a big confidence sapping, living off scraps with minimal touches of the ball, two quick fire goals from her showed what she’s all about and gave the team real breathing space in the match. Strong wide play from Belle released Emilie to cross for Brooke’s first (4-1), within minutes another was stabbed home from another Emilie assist (5-1). Emilie seemed to be enjoying herself, her run and finish giving the team an incredible sixth goal before the interval (6-1). On the stroke of half-time, Lila and Eva joined forces to snuff out a dangerous passage of play from an Aldershot team that continued to show a lot of spirit on a very difficult morning from them. HT 6-1 With a very dominant first half showing put to bed the second period probably didn’t match the same intensity, the game now won in real terms although at times still saw some quality football. Two more goals were added in the half and both very well taken, Brooke’s clever front post movement and finish for her hat-trick from Sienna’s driven cross (7-1) made to look simple and Georgia making space for herself in the penalty box before firing to the goalkeepers right hand corner for a deserved goal for her creative play on the day (8-1). The final whistle blew to bring an end to a very satisfying run out for the girls.

FT: WTFC 8 Aldershot 1

POM: Belle (very strong defensively but showed much more today, at times putting the team on the front foot in forward areas)

Summary: A very good game from the team against an Aldershot side that never gave up and at times played some lovely football themselves. The girls’ have added strength to their games, they work hard for each other and are continually progressing into a very good football team. Well done to Maisy after a difficult start showed a lot of character and just the team as a whole…you all smashed it today! Really looking forward to seeing things develop in the New Year!

Final get together Wednesday ?????????????
