Chaddesley Corbett 0 v 3 TS UNITS FC
The UNITS overcame a tricky banana skin of a fixture this morning completing a 3-0 league double over a determined Chaddesley side
It was not only a case of the walking wounded this morning for the UNITS it was also a potential case of after the lord mayors show after winning the cup final on Tuesday
Gaffer Cuzer had only 14 to chose from, many carrying injuries and lined up as follows
Show, Penna, Chinner, Darbs, Barney, Baker, Ashton, Turner, Coco, Marcus & Pountney
Subs were Jim, Ross and Eggy
The UNITS picked an attacking shape to start and kicking down the slope were in the ascendancy early on, Ashton was getting forward well and had a low shot blocked early on when it seemed destined for the net
Chaddesley with 5 at the back and Pountney being man marked were happy to play on the break and credit to their wide players they had a go at our full backs whenever they could
On 15 some slick football from the UNITS resulted in Turner playing a 30 yard ball behind the back four leaving Pountney clean through only to shoot first time and wide from inside the 18 yard box in the best chance to date
10 later it was strike partner Marcus who could have scored when he snatched at a chance in the box and also fired wide
From a corner the UNITS almost broke the deadlock when from a goal mouth scramble the ball was hacked off the line
At the other end Show made one routine save and his handling was excellent as the game remained goal less at half time
HT Chaddesley 0 v TS UNITS 0
Cuzer asked the boys to be a bit more patient in their approach play in the 2nd half as we were in the ascendancy yet some of our play was hurried
Now kicking up the slope we continued to move the ball well where we could but Chaddesley were digging in which they do so well and the game was tight
On the hour mark Cuzer made 3 changes in quick succession, Jim replaced Turner, Ross replaced Ashton & Eggy replaced Barney
The UNITS then changed their shape and within 5 minutes were in front, after some good build up play down our right the ball came into the centre, the Corbett centre half had time but let the ball go under his foot and Pountney was onto it in a flash, a great first touch out of his feet was followed by a clinical finish into the bottom corner, vintage Farron and the UNITS were 1-0 up
Chaddesley tried to get back into the game but the UNITS were solid at the back, Show making one routine save at his near post and then dealing with a cross which evaded everybody which he pushed to safety
At the other end the UNITS pushed hard for a second, Marcus, Ross and Pountney all went close before on 85 minutes a deep corner from Coco was headed back across goal by Marcus, Jim was inches away from tapping home but the cleared ball came back to Marcus who drilled into the bottom corner from 12 yards to sew up the game
The introduction of Ross and Jim had given the UNITS real urgency and credit to both of them for their application so it was fitting they were both involved in our 3rd, some good leg work by Jim resulted in Coco picking up the ball in midfield, he showed good feet to beat his man before setting Ross free with a fine through ball and Ross lobbed the advancing keeper to sew up a hard fought but ultimately deserved victory for the UNITS
Man of the match went to Marcus Powell who was back to his early season best, leading the line well and linking up play with the midfield runners also getting himself on the score sheet
