The UNITS laboured to comprehensive win over B&B but it really should have been more convincing
Cuzer made a few changes from last week, handing an immediate debut to Newt's as we lined up Mala, Barney, Danny, Eggy, Brownie, Newt's, Ashton, Coco, Pountney, Ginge & Hunter
The bench was Taylor, Baker, Radman & Keith
Cuzer asked for a high tempo start and the UNITS responded taking the game to B&B from the off, the big surprise was it took us 10 minutes to open the scoring as we had laid siege to the B&B goal from the off, Coco cut in and played a slide rule pass to Ginge who took a touch away from the centre half & finished under the keeper to put the UNITS 1-0 up
The UNITS then rattled the crossbar twice in 5 minutes, firstly Hunter got away from their back line and half volleyed against the bar from 20 yards before Coco cut in and beat the keeper all ends up with the ball again cannoning back off the cross bar
It was all to comfortable for the UNITS alas we had eased off slightly and with their first real foray into our half B&B we're level when their wide player cut inside Danny before Ashton did well to poke the ball off his toes in the box only for the referee to stun everybody, including their players by pointing to the spot, a shocking decision but justice wasn't done when their player sent Mala the wrong way 1-1
The UNITS should really have been 3-4 up yet found themselves level but we kept asking all the questions, Ginge again went close and Newt's who was tidy on debut dragged a 20 yard shot inches wide, we regained the lead on 40 minutes when after a decent B&B break we intercepted and broke with pace, Pountney, now switched to the right lead their full back a merry dance before he crossed for coco to volley home from 10 yards
The half should have ended on a more reflective note as Pountney was released in behind, he twisted past the defender in the box only to shoot wide from 8 yards as the UNITS only came in 2-1 to the good
HT Bull 1 v 2 TS UNITS
Cuzer asked the boys to be better in their final 3rd and cut out the sloppy defensive play and the game should be won at a canter as we were clearly a slicker outfit of the two sides
We continued to move the ball well in the 2nd half but nearly shot ourselves in the foot on 50 minutes when Barney, at last man, was caught in possession and their striker raced away and prodded wide under pressure
Newton who had a fine debut had to be replaced on 60 minutes when winning a ball in the middle of the park he was clattered and ended up with a broken nose! Not one he'll forget in a hurry and was replaced by Baker
Despite being on the front foot the UNITS we're pegged back just after the hour mark when a hopeful clearance forward left their striker clean in behind Eggy & Brownie, he looked a yard off yet the flag stayed down and he poked home past Mala to give B&B an unlikely leveller
Thankfully within 5 minutes we had regained the lead when some lovely play down our left resulted in Coco whipping in a cross and Baker volleying home superbly from 10 yards with his, normally for standing on, left peg
It was criminal really B&B we're still in the game, despite their endeavour & effort the UNITS really should have been out of site but a combination of poor finishing and a sloppy final ball was costing us
Taylor replaced Ashton on 70 minutes and shortly after we made it 4-2 when Pountney was played in by Coco and he raced away, cut inside their defender before looping a deflected shot into the far corner
Yet again more sloppy play gave B&B another lifeline when Danny under hit a back pass and their forward seized on the mistake before finishing in off the post
Bull then rattled the crossbar as we continued to defend poorly,Cuzer then made his 3rd change shortly after Keith replaced Eggy in a re-shuffle. With 10 left we finally put the game to bed when after some good approach play Coco crossed for Hunter to head across goal and Taylor headed in from 2 yards to wrap up the game for the UNITS
There was still time for Pountney to miss a sitter but all in all a decent 3 points for the UNITS but a pretty average performance on the morning. We defended poorly and it still appears to be our Achilles heel and at the other end it was a rare off colour outing from our front players as we could have easily had double figures today with a bit more quality and better decision making
Man of the match went to Coco who scored a fine goal and had 3 assists to his name
Up next we take on Chainwire in the League Cup
