The UNITS took on Brit Wollaston Reserves in their next game in the Subsidiary Cup Cuzer was down to 12 today as we lined up Mala, Clarkey, Tonka, Gilo, Baker, Taylor, Ashton, Jim, Winny, Lewis & Rob Trigger was the lone sub
BWR had the games opening chance after only 90 seconds when from a decent move their striker dragged his shot wide from the edge of the box when he should have done better This focused the UNITS and by 5 minutes in we had raced into a 2 goal lead. Lewis got away down the right, crossed low, Jim stepped over the cross allowing Winny to finish smartly into the bottom corner from 8 yards Our 2nd was a lovely passing move through midfield involving 5 players before Baker slid a lovely pass to Lewis who raced away from the centre half before firing through the keepers legs for 2-0
The UNITS had to be professional today and credit to us we were defending well when BWR looked to threaten and when we had the ball we were passing it well and creating numerous chances
Jim switched a lovely diagonal to Lewis who uncharacteristically took a heavy touch allowing the keeper to gather, he then stung the keepers palms when clean through, then Jim fired over from just inside the box as we kept coming at the BWR goal and then Clarkey hit a lovely curling left foot effort which ended up inches wide of the far post
The 3rd came from some quick thinking from Taylor who took a quick throw to Winny who hit a lovely 25 yarder which rattled in off the crossbar for 3-0
The 4th came from a fine 30 yard ball from Ashton who played in Lewis who finished clinically past the home keeper
Our 5th came before half time when Jim played a lovely diagonal ball in behind the home defence and Winny completed his hat trick with a great deft finish lobbing the keeper from 10 yards to complete a good first halfs work for the UNITS
HT Brit Wollaston Reserves 0 v 5 TS UNITS
Cuzer congratulated the boys on some good football and encouraged them to continue in the same vein in the 2nd half
50 minutes in and we made it 6-0 when Taylor showed good feet to twist and turn past his marker before floating a lovely left foot cross to the back stick where Winny notched his 4th with a clever header back across the keeper
60 minutes it was 7 when Jim laid back a ball to Ashton who hit a swirling 25 yarder well with his left foot but one which went through the keeper and he really should have saved
The UNITS were now in free flow mode and coupled with excellent defensive work were making it difficult for the home side to get any rhythm going as wave after wave of attacks kept coming
65 minutes it became 8 with a great team goal, Ashton combined with Pountney before playing in Rob Bell who crossed left footed and low for Winny to run on to and bundle home from close range for his 5th of the game
Trigger then replaced Baker as Jim went more central and Lewis out wide
70 minutes and it was 9 nil when a back pass to the home keeper was chased down by Jim and the home keeper, who had made some great saves all morning, had a moment as it went under his foot and into the net for the UNITS 9th
For the last 20 minutes we really could and should have added more, the home keeper made up for his couple of errors by saving superbly from Trigger on two occasions, Tonka rattled the bar and Lewis contrived to miss an absolute sitter for his hat trick but all in all an impressive mornings work from the UNITS as we made it back to back wins in the competition
Man of the match went to Winny for his 5 goals but also his all round impressive display with and without the ball
