SOFCA GUN DOWN GUNSHOW!
Sofca have been up to now a group of good players, but what happened on Sunday was a pivotal moment. Instead of 11 individual players, they became one team, playing for and with each other, perhaps showing that Duncan's midweek training regime was starting to bear fruit.
Sofca started the game on the attack and pinned Gunshow back straight away. The reward for this aggressive start came in only the 3rd minute with Ben the trunch scoring from a pass by Harry Simpson.
The pressure was kept up and on 8 minutes Harry scored the 2nd with the hard working captain Andy providing the final ball.
With their first meaningful attack, Gunshow pegged one back soon after through a scrambled goal, which was given by the ref despite having clearly gone out of play.
Sofca kept their heads and continued to play well with some good passing play, Luke particularly effective in his new left midfield role, and John E and Nathan continually harrassing Gunshow's defence.
Harry Simpson, was on fire and was all over the pitch helping in defence, passing in midfield, and supporting the strikers, and the reward for this performance came in the 23rd minute, when he put the excellent Nathan in to put Sofca 3-1 up, which it remained until half time.
Gunshow upped the tempo at the beginning of the second half and their pressure final told when they scored in the 69th minute to make it 3-2, although again, the ref missed a push on Dave White. Gunshow continued to press, but Dave White commanded the box well, with a tight back 4 and midfield in front of him, snuffing out any further attacks.
James came on to replace John Edgar on 61 minutes and immediately caused problems for the home side’s defence. Gunshow struggled to get back into the game but the introduction of Duncan for Luke with 20 minutes to go proved to be the defining moment of the half. His tough tackling and penetrating runs down the left pinned the opposition back, and the reward came in the 81st minute when Duncan headed in the irrepressible Harry’s pinpoint cross to make it 4-2.
Phil was introduced with 12 minutes to go and kept the attacking momentum going, with a couple of decent shots at goal and keeping the defence under pressure. No further meaningful attacks came from Gunshow, and the match ended with a 4-2 victory for Sofca.
Not everyone got a mention in this report but all 14 players gave 100% and deserved their victory. Harry Simpson just about got man of the match but it could have been any one of six or seven players.
A final mention for the coach for setting the tactics right, getting the morale right, and making the correct substitutions at the right time.
That game is now finished and forgotten. Next Sunday is Sporting Crabs who won by a narrow margin last time. Very beatable, and with the same attitude from Sofca as this game, will be beaten!
