INTER LATCHMERE V SUTTON NEW TOWN ATHLETIC
5 2
It was a very foggy damp November morning. Visibility was quite poor and it was touch and go as to whether the ref would allow the match to go ahead, but eventually the game kicked off.
The first notable attack in the 3rd minute was Sutton’s but Luke’s free kick went wide. Following that Inter had a corner which Sutton cleared. In the 6th minute, Inter had a free kick 25yds out
which took a couple of deflections and went in for a lucky first goal. The half proceeded with chances both ways but Sutton had more of the ball, and better chances but they could not open their account. With half time approaching, Sutton cleared the ball but it went to an Inter player who took a wild swing at it and it looped up above the keeper to drop in the far corner of the goal for a 2-0 lead against the run of play. After dominating most of the half Sutton were shell shocked to be 2-0 down, and before they could recover Inter scored a third after breaking a soft tackle.
Sutton came out in the second half with purpose, and spent most of the second half camped in the Inter half. Several players had chances but could not break the duck.
In a rare visit to the Sutton half, Inter scored their 4th in the 68th again from a lucky deflection. In the 76th Inter scored their 5th.
It was scarcely believable that Sutton were 5-0 down having dominated most of the game. In the 80th minute Sutton finally got some reward with Nathan scoring from a tight angle, following Luke's pass. Sutton continued to press and got their 2nd in the 89th minute. Following a Sutton corner the ball was cleared but Kieran’s superb pass was headed in by Bas at the far post.
Sutton continued to press in the 4 minutes of added time but the ref finally blew for a final score of 5-2.
This was a hard scoreline to swallow given that Sutton had played their best of the season, but they conceded 3 flukes
and few can recover from that.
