Top met bottom in the match against Brickmakers on the 2nd May, and many predicted the score of the match before it had begun. Carl Calland wanted to change his guess of the overall score after he overheard a Brickmakers player calling his squad ‘a comedy road show’. Sankey arms got off to their usual start of a few wasted opportunities, but then got more and more into the game. On the 11th minute Dave Morgan played a long ball over the Brickmakers defence for Stu Wellstead to run onto and he coolly placed it into the bottom right hand side of the net. Sankey arms put Brickmakers under the cosh and another magical ball from Dave Morgan to put Stu Wellstead through for a goal similar to the first on the 24th minute. Only two more minutes went by and Neil Wearing laid the ball of for Dean ‘the punisher’ to hit a third past the Brickmakers goalkeeper. Only moments later Gaz Bouldsworth was put through by ‘Big’ Danny Rushton, but he was brought down in the box by the Brickmakers goalkeeper. Dave Morgan stepped up to the mark and made it 4-0. Sankey arms were lurking around the Brickmakers box and Scott ‘the chopper’ Deans played a long ball across the pitch to ‘Big’ Danny Rushton who couldn’t find anyone to pass the ball to, so he decided to have a shot from the best part of 30 yards, the ball bounced awkwardly in front of Brickmakers goal mouth and went past the goalkeeper for a fifth goal for the Sankey arms. One minute later, Gaz Bouldsworth gave the ball to Dean Beardall for a 1-2, but Beardall had a different idea and hit the back of the net again. On the 34th and 39th minute Neil Wearing passed to Stu Wellstead who got two goals from these opportunities. Only a few more seconds were played before Dean Beardall put another through for Stu Wellstead to capitalise on yet another chance. On the 40th minute, Stu Wellstead put one on the foot of Dean Beardall who made his hat-trick. Half time Sankey arms 10-0 Brickmakers.
At half-time ‘Big’ Danny Rushton was substituted for Ade Griffiths. The 2nd half started brightly with Neil Wearing hitting a volley from outside of the area which was the best goal of the game so far. This was short lived though, because the ball later landed to Dean ‘the punisher’ Beardall who volleyed another home to make it 12-0, but Brickmakers answered with a goal because of a defensive mix up. Dean Beardall was then brought off for Jason Osbourne. Dean passed his armband to Ade ‘the silverback’ Griffiths. Osbourne was on for mere moments before he got into an argument with the referee which earned him a yellow card. On the 87th minute Sankey arms were awarded a penalty which Ade ‘the silverback’ Griffiths decided to take, he hit it down the middle of the goal. On the 89th minute Lee ‘tap-in’ Calland set up Jason Osbourne to make it 14-1 to the mighty Sankey Arms.
During the game a huge shock hit the touchline as ‘Scouse’ Kev offered cigarettes to Mickey ‘Shags’, many pictures were taken by stunned supporters around the stadium. After the match the shell-shocked Brickmakers squad came back to the Sankey arms for a drink, which was a great sign of sportsmanship from the lads, but what was disappointing was only seeing around half of the Sankey arms players coming back for a drink. The ones who did though, were awarded by seeing Dan Cowen wearing a Liverpool F.C shirt, the huge Manchester united fan will never be let to forget this moment.
