Sankey Arms had to take a trip to Victoria park, last time they made a visit here was back on a freezing 20th December Sunday against Brook Vale. Sankey Arms thought that they would have an easy game ahead of them as Bank Quay were stuck with 10 men and a out-field player in goal. Bank Quay came out with it all though, and it seemed as though it was going to be a midfield battle, but all of that changed on the 20th minute when Bank Quay were awarded a penalty for hand ball, although the Sankey Arms touchline disagreed with the referee. Bank Quay’s goalkeeper stepped up to the spot… and hit it wide of the mark. Not much further into the game, Sankey Arms earned a corner and Gaz Bouldsworth taken it, the curling effort went straight into the net. Dean Beardall had the next big chance in the game with a diving header from only 3 yards, somehow he managed to knock it over the bar, he received the usual penalty of touchline abuse for this miss. Dean Beardall partially redeemed himself by playing a through ball for Gaz Bouldsworth to run onto, Gaz Bouldsworth got his second of the morning after this opportunity.
Half Time Sankey Arms 2-0 Bank Quay.
Three minutes into the new half and Dean Beardall played a ball to Dave Morgan who capitalised from this opportunity to put Sankey Arms 3-0 up. Once again Sankey Arms were on the attack and a defensive mix up allowed Dean Beardall to punish Bank Quay. From the centre kick Bank Quay attacked and were given a corner, it was a short pass and then as the ball was crossed in it curled and went in to the net. Straight after the next kick Gaz Bouldsworth went on a run which ended with Sankey Arms having a 5-1 lead on the 62nd minute. Dean ‘The Punisher’ Beardall and Scott ‘The Chopper’ Deans made way for Ade ‘The Bear’ Griffiths and Phil ‘The Sherman’ Briers. The Sherman made an instant impact by winning the ball from a Bank Quay winger and he played the ball forward to the prolific Stu Wellstead who put yet another passed Bank Quay’s stand-in goalkeeper. ‘Big’ Danny Rushton then pulled his calf and had to limp off the pitch, an emergency substitution had to be made, and you could tell that it was an emergency because ‘The Old Man’ Jon Houghton made an appearance. Stu Wellstead scored another goal and made it 7-1 to the Sankey Arms. As the game reached its conclusion, the injured Neill ‘Tugger’ Harrison opened a conversation with Stu Wellstead, half way through it though, Stu ran away with the ball and started a huge run beating seven (7) Bank Quay players, all he had to do now was to hit the back of the net, but the Bank Quay goalkeeper made a good save low to his left. Stu Wellstead, shortly after put yet another goal away in the 77th minute. On the 80th minute Lee Calland finally got his goal after a few ‘tap-in’ misses. On the 85th minute Stu Wellstead scored another and on the 89th minute he found himself in another goal scoring position, but he decided to share the wealth and give it to Lee Calland to score, he miss controlled the ball and managed to scramble it to the old man himself Jon Houghton.
After the game Sankey received much good news because Poplars, our only real remaining threat were defeated 4-0 by the rampant Galacticos Athletic. We are nearing the end of the season now guys, lets keep it up and win this league.
