We entertained top of the table Henleys Athletic knowing that a win would lift us from third to take over at the top..
We started off well putting the Henleys goal under pressure, however, Henleys took the lead after 5 mins with their first real attack. Tom Keegan played a long cross field ball from the right wing to Mark Hemingway on the left wing. He took a touch and rifled a great strike across Police keeper Adam Cunningham into the far corner of the net from 20 yards.
Police hit back and a minute later should have been level when David Cooke was put through only for him to place a tame shot into the arms of Henleys keeper Ian Moore.
Three mins later Moore was again in action when he tipped a Graham Caygill effort over the bar when his shot looked to be heading for the top corner.
Police pressure paid off after 16mins when a David Cooke corner was met by Sean Radford whose effort was brilliantly saved by Moore pushing his effort on to the post, however, Radford reacted quickly and forced the loose ball home.
A minute later Police were 2-1 up when a Cooke cross from the right was deftly headed home by Liam Darville.
The police midfield of Cooke, Radford, Liam Darville, Chris Walker and Gary Shardha were controlling the game at this point with Cookes prompting and skills from corners and dead ball situations causing Henleys problems.
Henleys were playing some neat football but the Police defence dealt with their efforts.
Half time 2-1.
Henleys came out strongly in the second half and put the Police defence under pressure for the first 15 mins of the 2nd half. In the 46th minute a cross from a Henleys player was sliced by Jason Newall onto his own cross bar.
Police hit back and Ben Darville was put through and was about to round keeper Moore when the keeper brought him down, however, referee Jim Wilson waved play on when a penalty was the order of the day and possibly a red card for the keeper.
Police kept the pressure up and Moore went on to make great saves from Liam Darville, Graham Caygill, Ben Darville and Cooke.
Henleys played some neat passing football in midfield but lacked the finishing touch, however, they had a penalty claim turned down when Simon Pinkney appeared to have fouled Tom Keegan.
Mark Hemingway was man of the match for Henleys with Sean Radford taking it for the Police.
