Town went into this game on the back of just 1 defeat in their last 10 games and were full of confidence. It was a complete change to the previous set up at Heather as the players travelled for over an hour to Lincolnshire to see changing rooms without doors, no bar facilities and a very small pitch.
There was only 1 change as Ball came in at full back with Worrad dropping to the bench. It proved a difficulty start for Ball as he misread a ball over the top in the first minute which allowed the Dons winger in but his effort was lashed wide. The home side took early control and were causing Ball all sorts of problems down the right flank and another cross from that side was met by the forward but his effort sailed over. Town then had their first move of the game when a cross from the right was met by skipper Silk 6 yards out but the keeper comfortably saved his header. Dons then began to attack down the left flank with their quick winger getting in behind Cossu at full back on a regular basis. Parry and Ramkissoon stood firm at the back and once again came to Town’s rescue on a number of occasions. Town were struggling to gain any kind of control in the middle of the park on a very tight bobbly pitch. The game became a midfield battle with little quality from either side. The only chances of note were a header over from a corner for the home side and a long range effort from Silk that went wide. With the game heading towards half time Town struck when at last a passing move ended up with the ball breaking to Aubrey on the left side of the area and he squeezed the ball over the line a minute before the break. Town knew that this was one of those games where they had to dig deep and grind out a result. Town played some much better stuff in the second half and restricted the home side to some wayward long range efforts. The first chance of the half falling to Hardy who was put through on the right but as the ball bounced up he lashed it wide of the near post with the keeper to beat. The best chance of the half came on 75 minutes when a great passing move down the right ended with Silk squaring the ball to Aubrey who somehow managed to hit the crossbar from 3 yards out with an empty net in front of him. Town pressed on in search of the goal that would finish the game off and it came on 83 minutes when Jelly attacked down the left and his cross/shot ballooned up in the air for Aubrey to head down at the far post and with the referee right on the spot he deemed the ball had crossed the line. Town made more changes after the second goal to slow the game down bringing Taylor on for his debut and comfortably saw the game out. It had been a scrappy game and Town had been nowhere near their best but still managed to come away with the points. Town will now turn their attention to the County Cup where they entertain Birstall RBL on Saturday afternoon. FT CK 0-2 LTFC.
