At last Town took to the field again after a long layoff due to the weather. It was the first home league game since October but was an important one as both teams went into the game on the same points.
Town were without Ross Proud, James Frost, Sam Jayes and Piero Cossu but still had a strong starting 11.
The game began scrappily and Towns defence were looking rusty making uncharacteristic mistakes that fortunately went unpunished. At the other end Towns front 3 were causing all sorts of problems for Nomads defence. Jelly was the first to show with the keeper tipping an effort round the post, Hardy then went clean through but his heavy touch allowed the keeper to save. Jelly then went through on the right but he neither produced a shot or a cross and was smothered out. The Town midfield 3 of S.Ramkissoon, Mcdade and captain Silk were dictating the game and a goal was coming. The deadlock was broken on 23 minutes when Hardy showed the full back a clean pair of heels and centred perfectly for Jelly to steer it home across the keeper. Less than 10 minutes later and it was 2-0 as Jelly played a perfect through ball for Hardy to get in behind and slot past the on rushing keeper. Nomads did have a glorious chance to pull one back but a free header from 2 yards was put way over the bar. HT LTFC 2-0 ANFC.
The second half started with Town keeper Smith pulling off a smart save at his near post. Town then began to dominate again and the pressure eventually told when after 64 minutes Town made it 3. A cross from the right looked to be harmlessly going out for a goal kick when Hardy somehow got a boot to it and chipped it back across goal for Jelly to slide in for his second of the game. Town continued to press and on 80 minutes it was 4 when after a goal mouth scramble the ball cannoned off Ramkissoon to Aubrey who coolly chipped the keeper from 15 yards. Town made 3 changes with Sharman, Toone and Da Silva entering the fray. Sharman almost made an immediate impact on his first team debut as he was put through on the right but with the keeper to beat the ball took a cruel bobble and tamely ran through to the keeper’s hands. There was still time for Smith to pull off another smart save in the Town goal but when the final whistle came the score line reflected Towns dominance on a difficult pitch. The perfect tonic for Town going into the eagerly anticipated local derby at Lutterworth Athletic next Saturday
