Woody’s Ebogs Vapors U9 ??vs ??London Colney Colts Blue U9
First time playing in dry warm conditions in a long time, the Colts also found themselves on grass (and boggy bumpy grass) for the fast time in a long while. We were also missing Alby who was a loss in these tough conditions as his endurance would have been really valuable. This was our third time playing this team having suffered two defeats earlier in the season (the first one was most disappointing as we looked like the stronger team).
Today we had a disappointing start with a goal conceded within 6 minutes.
6 mins ??: Ebogs take the lead ??1-0??
The majority of the first half passed with no goals, Ebogs maintained lots of possession and Jonas was working hard making several good saves under pressure and some excellent defending from George and Ziyad. The match did move end to end and it took the Colts a long time to work out how to play on this pitch playing downhill. Oscar won a free kick late in the first half just outside the box. He lifted it over the heads of the defenders and just out of reach of the goalie.
22 mins ??: ??1-1?? Oscar
It was looking like a hard won draw going into half time but the Colts kept going and managed a second goal just before half time. There was some congested play in the right wing following a couple of throw ins, Arthur managed to intercept an Ebogs pass and made a long range pass over the heads of all the players that had crowded into the battle. The ball got to Oscar in space, he made the run into the box and with defenders swarming timed it right to ensure the goalie had gone the other way.
24 mins ??: ??1-2?? Oscar (Arthur assist)

The second half worked much like the first. The Colts took a while to get the hang of their new challenge going uphill. Whilst the Ebogs made the most of this early on and equalised with a great long throw into the box to be tapped in by one of their players.
29 mins ?? Ebogs ??2-2 ??
We suffered a couple of injuries in battles and before long we were behind again after an excellent corner from the Ebogs.
37 mins ?? Ebogs ??3-2??
It felt like this might be another defeat. Much like the first half the Colts got into their stride late in the half as they got the hang of pushing uphill on the pitch.
The equaliser came from some excellent play from Henry, he tackled an Ebog player in his half and accelerated towards the box, swamped by defenders Henry made a good choice and passed to Oscar in space. Once again Oscar timed it well so that the goalie had committed to coming out and then put it past him.
45 mins ?? ??3-3?? Oscar (Henry assist)
Having been down for most of this match on the sidelines we were counting the minutes to bank a draw. Luckily the boys were still committed and had got into their swing. The Colts won a corner in the dying minutes and then a throw in next to corner, Cian did a big throw to Henry in the box, Henry went for a huge kick at the goal which got deflected by a large defender coming in. Cian was well placed to catch it in the right wing just outside the box, he didn’t have any time as the defender was headed to the ball, he got a strong boot to it and with a crowded box it got past the keeper and Oscar sensibly ensured it was over the line.
50 mins ????4-3?? Cian (Henry assist)
The last minute of play was in our half with a free kick awarded to us, sadly another injury but luckily we ended it there with a fantastic win.
Well done Colney Colts. The boys played really well today against an evenly matched team. The Colts had some excellent goal keeping today and creating and converting chances. Great to see them playing as a team, passing the ball and encouraging each other to keep going when they were falling behind. A good experience of the harder play on sloped grass pitches for the Colts.
FT win for Colts
