Alexandra Park Youth South Under 9s ??v ??London Colney Colts Under 9 Blues
Report by Ellie Jay Ch
An early sunny kick off at 9:30 in North London saw the Colts once again on grass playing uphill first half and downhill second half. The boys were fresh out of their 90 minute trials yesterday and some of the two team boys will have done quite a bit of running this weekend as a result but they arrived fresh and rested ready to go.
The first goal came ten minutes in when there was a Alexandra Palace goal kick to their defender who sent it long, the pass was intercepted by Arthur who passed back up to the box but it was cleared by the defender, Henry positioned perfectly ran up at the half way line collected the ball and used the incoming momentum on his right foot to target right back at goal, fooling the defenders who expected a pass and sending it straight over the goalies head.
An unstoppable goal and great idea from Henry. David Beckham has nothing on Henry ??
10 mins ??goal Henry: ??0-1??
The lead didn’t last more than a minute as the opposition caught us when the centre kick had to be retaken after the first one was dealt with easily by the Colts.
10 mins ?? ??1-1??
The next goal came another ten minutes into play. Henry took possession in our half and passed to Alby in the left wing, Alby drove it up the wing and passed it into the box where it rebounded off the defender he sent it straight back into the box where the goalie was ready to collect it, fortunately Sufyan had spotted the chance and headed it over the goalie for a fantastic finish and our first ever headed goal. And a calm celebration
20 mins ?? ??1-2?? Sufyan
The second half was more challenging than the first. As we discovered after the match this was the ref’s first match and although she was even in her treatment of both sides she didn’t stop play for a number of fairly serious and obvious fouls. This is part of developing youth refs but resulted in both sides feeling a little put out at different points and probably contributed to the boys getting more physical. As the clock wound down you could see the boys getting more tired from the grass and we were missing Oscar’s presence as a striker.
Late into the second half Alexandra Palace capitalised on our boys being a downcast from the lack of discipline and scored from a corner with a crowded box where Jonas made two brilliant saves but was on the floor from the second when they took their third rebound shot.
40 mins ?? ??2-2??
The boys went all out for the last 15 minutes, creating lots of chances and pushing hard for a final goal.
It felt we should have had a win today as the stronger team but there was lots to be proud of the boys all played brilliantly showing lots of strength, grit, team work and skills. The boys created lots of chances and there was some excellent passing, we also saw lots of the boys really step up towards the end of the season and show lots of personal development.
Man of the match this week: the entire team.
