London Colney Colts Blue ?? v ??SFC Orange Under 9s : a rainy day for a well deserved win
Report by Ellie Jay Ch
A 10:45 kick off at Beaumont today in absolutely sideways rain in an SFC doubleheader at u9s, with the Blues following the Whites.
Colts Blues@ took control of the ball from the centre kick but when the ball came down to our end they managed to get it past the keeper for the first goal.
2 mins: ?? SFC GOAL, ??0-1??
Colts were frustrated to be fighting back so early. Luckily we didn’t have to wait long for the come back. Henry was on fine form today and didn’t let his head drop at the early goal against us. Alby won a free kick in our half, Arthur took it getting all the shooters upfield. The ball made it to just outside the box where Cian crossed it to shoot at goal, the goalie cleared. Luckily Henry was there to follow up just outside the box, great positioning and an amazing goal off his less dominant left foot with so much power that the goalie couldn’t stop it despite getting to it.
Us supporters on the sidelines all enjoyed Henry’s new penguin celebration. He has a new one each week.
3 mins ??Henry ??1-1??
Henry scored again 7 mins later. Sufyan stopped the ball getting deep into our half sending it back up the line to Alby who pass to Cian, Cian crossed into the box but it was cleared by a defender. Henry was perfectly positioned again to take possession outside the box, he used his skills to get past the swarming defenders to pot it over the goalies head.
10mins ?? Henry ??2-1??
There were some other chances and a couple of great saves from Jonas. Cian also had a great shot at goal saved by the SFC goalie. The boys on the bench and Jonas in goal were doing all the could to keep warm in the hammering rain.
The Colts ended the first half by trying to end any second half come back plans. There was just a minute of play left when Alby did a great throw in, Cian took possession in the box but SFC cleared it. Alby came straight in to kick it to over the defenders heads. The goalie tried to save it but Cian was coming in fast and keeping an eye on both it got right past him.
24 mins: ??Alby ??3-1??
HT: ??3-1??
Nine minutes into the second half Oscar was making a run at goal just outside the box, three defenders were on him so he passed to Elliot, Elliot took a shot and the defender in the box raised his hands instinctively and batted it with his left hand. Winning a penalty. Alby stepped up to take it, unfortunately it isn’t caught on video as we were dealing with a parent that was attempting to disagree with our youth referee. A timely reminder to all that youth referees are an important part of grass roots football and they need everyone to respect their decisions…. Back to the match Alby’s penalty was saved but luckily he kept his head and followed up on the rebound for the goal.
35 mins: ??penalty Alby ??4-1??
SFC looked to respond to our penalty immediately reducing the lead.
36 mins:??SFC ??4-2??
The next goal came from Arthur. Arthur made a pass into the box to Oscar who was once again being defended by up to five defenders, Oscar had no choice but to try and get it back to Arthur , Arthur accelerated for the ball and positioned well for the kick over the defenders (and a timely duck by Oscar) to get it in the corner of the goal where the goalie couldn’t reach it. After a further debate from the opposition coach we could celebrate.
41 mins: ??Arthur (Oscar assist) ??5-2??
There were several more opportunities including two separate whacks on the side post from Cian that were unlucky not to make it and a few shots from Henry that went just wide for a dent on the Beaumont sheds.
Henry finally got an opportunity to make it a hat trick when a battle near the corner saw Cian pass it to Henry in his favourite shooting spot just outside the box. He took the shot once again on his left (looks like Friday training on non dominant feet is paying off for Henry). It looked like SFC may stop it but it was once again just outside their reach.
44mins ??Henry (Cian assist) ??6-2??
For the next six minutes Colts played 7 against 8 SFC as power play came into force due to the goal difference.
??Just before the whistle SFC managed to score.
FT: The match ended at ??6-3??
A tough day for football in horrid rain, the Colts did us proud showing their skills with good passing and taking their chances on goal.
Well played boys.
Man of the match: Sufyan
