In the only surviving fixture of the weekend two well matched sides fought out a thrilling game in tough conditions.Although we again finished up on the losing side our performance was probably as good if not better than we have played all season. In the end our opponents from Tower Hill were hanging on for dear life as we pushed and pushed to get ourselves back on level terms.
We began the game in determined fashion going close to an early goal through George who got in behind the Tower back line but a heavy touch brought him just too close the keeper who rode his luck to clear with his feet. George and Ned were linking up well down the right to cause problems and from one such attack Neds marker cythed him down to give us a freekick 30 yards from goal. Up strode Ollie and KABOOM! the ball was rocketed into the roof of the net and we were ahead. Our lead only lasted a while as the unfortunate Youngy in trying to clear at the back post only managed to steer the ball into Isaacs net. Had Thomas not been there then his marker would have had the easiest of tap-ins. This was to be the only foot that Youngy put wrong all game and his drive and effort in the second half was a major inspiration to the rest of his team-mates. A route one ball caught us square at the back as we pushed to go back in front and the forward made no mistake with his finish giving Isaac no chance and we were behind at the break.
At half-time we asked for a little more steel in the challenge and we were given girders. Every player upped his game and we put the league leaders on the backfoot. Lewis and Jonty were the driving force in the middle winning and using the ball wisely this allowed Youngy and Ned room out wide to give their opposite numbers a torrid time and we were applying the pressure. Another goal against the run of play looked like it may be our downfall but this only spurred us on to greater efforts. George flashed a shot across the goal before Tyler scored our second with a stunning end to end counter attack. Ned turned his marker down by our own corner flag and fed the ball up to Matty. Matty spotted Tyler peeling free from his opponent and delivered an inch perfect pass into his stride. Tyler held off a strong challenge before slotting home a fine goal. More efforts from Jonty and Lewis were blocked before a brilliant bicycle kick from Ned grazed the crossbar. Ollie ,Joe, Matty and Owen looked unbeatable at the back as we poured forward in search of an equaliser but it just wouldn't come, every deflection and ricochet fell the way of the Tower defence and our luck was completely out today.
Let's try to make this our last defeat of the season and use this performance to inspire us to greater things. Thanks to Alex , Tom and Harry for your commitment both today and all other matchdays plus training nights.
