After a lacklustre first half performance from our side a complete change of attitude and effort turned things back in our favour. For large periods of the second half we were in top gear and frightening the life out of Bloxham. Isaac did well to keep out a close range header in the opening minutes but was hardly called upon to make many other saves of note. The home keeper done well to race from his line and deny Jake an opening goal and Tom then had an effort from Georges corner which was hacked off the goal line to safety. In a half of little excitement we had been largely second best in the midfield battle where Ollie valiantly tried to cope alone. Shortly before the break Bloxham went in front and deservedly so for their extra work they had been putting in. An old friend from our Adderbury days nipped in behind Keiron to beat Isaac at his near post. This goal worked oddly in our favour as it seemed to fire us up from our slumber.
Callum was introduced on the left flank for Harlie who had found it difficult to get the better of his workmanlike marker. Throughout the second half Callum probed and pushed back his opposite number and looked a constant threat going forward. The equalising goal came quick for us. Ollie fed Jake, Jake swept over a vicious cross and Tyler teed up for George to rifle under the keeper and bang it was game on. With our tails up we went for the jugular again with Jake delivering a sweet cross, Tyler swung wild at his first effort then composed himself to hammer home the rebound and put us ahead. Callum was picked out by Tom and his great run was halted with the reward of a corner. From the resulting corner Ollie rose like a salmon and thundered his header past a despondent keeper. George then scored the goal of the game with a fantastic bicycle kick from another great Jake Manning cross. Joe had played a slide rule pass in behind the Bloxham defence, Jake pushed the ball on and delivered a high ball into the box. With his back to goal George took off and his beautiful overhead kick nestled in the bottom corner for number four. The chances continued to mount up with Tom , Callum, Harlie and lastly Chris Davies with a firm header all the wrong side of the post we couldn’t add to the score. In the dying minutes Bloxham showed our wayward shooters just how to score with two well struck shots that found their target to give a slightly false account of the proceedings. Both late goals had come from midfield wide runners who had not been tracked back as we forgot our duties late in the game. Over the course of the majority of the game our back line had nullified any attacking threat with some good marking and strong tackles and did not deserve to concede so many. Isaac ,Ned , Joe ,Keiron and Makelele Sumner can all be pleased with another good defensive display.
Thank you to everyone for turning this game around and showing belief and confidence in yourselves after the break. Three games to go boys, let’s keep this run going right to the end for a top three finish.
