Guide Post kept up the impressive form from the previous couple of weeks securing a second win in a row, against always tough opposition KYPC Storm.
Guide Post brought back Tanky into the squad along with new signing James Brady.
The boys looked up for it from the start, forcing a succession of corners in the first few minutes, but it was a flowing mover from the back that got the first goal in the 4th minute, Luke in his own half put a lovely through ball to flying winger Joe B who took the ball on perfectly and drilled in a lovely low cross into the box for Ryan to smash home with great composure after coming in well from the left wing. Great team goal boys. Storm looked a threat going forward especially the speedy left winger, but captain olly was once again in inspired form to repel the danger. kieran and Mason were also strong at the back with Cam showing safe hands in goal. While going forward Joe B was having lots of space to run into on the right wing, and through his good work James on as a sub sent the ball accross the goal line, but we couldn't finish. Luke was proving an handful for Storm as we created a number of corner opportunities.
On 25 minutes, a quick through ball down the middle and it was a foot race between the Storm number 9, Cam just getting in there in time to clear the ball but was caught accidentally as he did so. Unfortunately Cam was unable to continue, and this meant we had to reshuffle the team. Luckily we have three experienced keepers in the side with Kieran stepping forward to take the gloves, which meant Olly was then switched to central defender from midfield role. The boys didnt let this effect them, as Josephs long range shot looked to be creeping in the far post only for the keeper or was was it the post to keep the shot out. Soon after whistle went for half time, Guide Post 1-0 up.
Storm must havve had harsh words at the break as they came out on fire at the start of the second half, they looked a more threatening, and Kieran had to make some good stops while when he was beaten the bar came to the rescue with the ball being judged not to have gone over the line. Olly and Mason were fighting hard though to keep them out, at the other end we were being restricted to some long range efforrts from Luke and James up front. On a rare break though we took the pressure off, Joe B making a good run as ever before crossing a ball over which was stopped by the storm defeneder with his arm raised, so the referee pointed to the spot. Luke having missed last week still wanted to take this one, with Mason waiting in the wings, but Lukes confidence was well placed, off a short run up he blasted it in giving the keeper no chance. This lifted the boys and it wes back to end to end stuff, with James leading the line well, supported nicely by Luke, Ryan and joseph. It was a good third goal that killed the game nice interplay led to Luke putting James away, who calmly placed the ball past the keeper with his side foot, great goal on debut. A couple of minutes later and James didnt know a lot about his second goal, chasing a ball through the keeper was unfortunate to clear the ball straight at James, with the ball rebounding into the goal. Unlucky for the keeper but reward for James hard work.
With the game won, Storm got a fortunate goal of their own, a well whipped in corner was unfortuantely deflected in for an own goal, which was a shame as the keepers and defensive players deserved a clean sheet. The final whistle went soon after, to give Guide Post a fine 4-1 win.
Luke was given the Away managers decision once again!! Hard work, nice passing, strong in tackle, and a well struck penalty meant it was another strong performance. While for the home managers decision, Joe B great running down the right, and James on debut really impressed with his two goals, but the decision had to go down to the two rocks at the back in the form of Mason & Olly, It was a tough decision has both were excellent, on a two coaches to one basis Mason got the award. A reward for three very strong displays at the back from Mason who has sucessfully transformed from Hurricanes top scored into a very good defender! It was though a very good team performance with everyone contributing well. SO WELL DONE ALL THE BOYS!!
Next Saturday we travel to Tynemouth for the third time this time to take on their high flying Yellows side, but after three good displays we will go there in good heart and looking forward to the hard game.
