An exciting game of football played out between two well matched sides, a draw may have been the fairer result as both teams gave it their all in an end to end game.
Kyle, Josh and Dylan all missing today, down to the last remaining 7! Ethan started in goal, with Joe I at the back along with Ben, Luke on the right, Kieran left, Joe B in the middle and Ethan B up front.
Yellows playing with the wind dominated the early exchanges, some long range shots were well dealt with by Ethan, while our scramble defence to long throws and corners was excellent to withstand the pressure. Our only chance came on the break when Joe B doing well in centre midfield put away Luke who drowe on and smashed the ball low only for the keeper to make a fine stop. Yellows hit back with more corners, then a long range clearance led to a Yellows throw near their own area, defender threw back to the keeper who unfortunately for them picked the ball up. After some confusiion both coaches let the ref know that the free kick for the back pass needed to be outside the area, Ethan was faced with a tight angle and no clear path on goal, so a really clever option he came up with, a delightful little chip free kick for Joe to power home an header.
Two minutes later and totally against the run of player the Jets were 2-0 up, good work again down the right from Luke forced a corner which was whipped in nicely from Ethan for Kieran to meet superbly with his head. Yellows despite these set backs continued to work hard and put us under pressure, Jets resistance finally breaking good work down the right, led to a scramble, Joe I's good tackle in the box balooned up off the yellows player and fell kindly to the striker who hit nicely first time to give Ethan no chance. This was the final scoring of the half.
Second half and with the wind, the Jets were much more into the game, Joe B, Luke and Kieran working hard to create chances, and Ethan went close on quite a number of occasions. Yellows though were still a threat, and they drew level early in the second half, a speculative effort from the left wing area, ballooned up in the wind and went unfortunately over Ethan head. 2-2 Jets though didn't let this effect them and were playing some nice football of their own to create lots of long thows for Ben and Kieran and some corners. Eventually got a goal from a Ben long throw, when Luke I think touched it on for Joe B to finish calmy from the middle of the box.
Still around ten minutes to go and Yellows pushed forward desperate to get something out of the game, but Ben and Joe I were strong at the back, with Ethan also doing well when called upon. With Yellows pushing on striker Ethan had a couple of good chances but the keeper did well to keep him out. Jets were holding on a little in last two minutes, so it was welcome relief to hear the sound of referee's whistle. Final score 3-2 to the jets. Despite big changes from the side who played earlier in the season, the remaining boys are certainly giving it their all. Well done all the boys, agian thought it was a good all round team performance, so a team man of the match again.
Ethan - Some brave stops and very assured handling
Ben - Awesome strong display at the back, pushed himself to the limit.
Joe I - Despite not feeling 100%, made some vital tackles late on in the game.
Kieran - Scored his first Jets goal!! Lovely powerful header and worked really hard on the left wing.
Luke - Been excellent coming into the side in the second half of the season, playing in unfamilar right wing position, working very hard tracking back, and likes to create chances for his team mates.
Joe B - With Kyle leaving he has grasped the opportunity to place centre midfield with both hands, box to box effort, and two really good finishes.
Ethan B - Two key moments of expertise to set up goals the little chip was sublime, then a great corner. Unlucky not to get on the score sheets as well.
Just a word for the hard working Yellows, they closed us down throughout the game, and are a fine side, can certainly see how they pushed Newcastle City to a draw, good luck for the rest of the season, you play the game in right manner with a great spirit.
We have a bit of a break now, next game on Tuesday 8th May at Guide Post Middle school.
