First of all, credit to a tough Cullercoats side, they were a good team who played some great football at times, the central midfield player is some talent. All the best to the Whites for the rest of the season, I am sure you will win more than you lose. It was a game that could easily have gone either way.
So pleased though for the Jets as they stood strong without the luxury of having to bring on subs in tiring conditions. Despite the muddy conditions we actially passed the ball better than we have done for a few weeks, some of the inter passing at the back was excellent, both defenders very cool on the ball. Best move of the first half probably involved about 6 one touch passes, before Joseph swung in a lovely ball for Ben who just couldn't quite control it. Every single member of the team worked hard, and the boys performed well as a team.
Whites probably just about edged it posession wise in the first half, and they created a number of excellent opportunities, a nicely whipped in corner was headed over, while Kieran had to smother quite a number of balls played in, and also made two superb saves to keep the Whites out. At the other end we did have our own opportunities, Ben heading over a good corner put in from Joseph. a Josh free kick nearly led to a goal, while Ethan went close a couple of times, forcing saves from the keeper. It looked like the teams would go in all square at the break, but then a nice quick through ball set Ethan away, a well hit shot was well parried from the keeper, but Ethan was first to react getting on the ball and drilling the ball hard and low, coming off the inside of the post, great strike Ethan gave the keeper no chance.
Second half thought we just about edged it this time, with our defenders doing a superb job to restrict the Whites to some long range efforts which Kieran was able to deal with really well. Whilst at the other end Ethan was causing them lots of problems, with Ben & Kyle also going close on a number of occasions. A second corner in succession near the end of the game, and another good effort from Etahn was well saved by the keeper, but this time it was Ben first to the ball to calmly slot home. Wth only two minutes to go this was the game breaker for the Jets, as they comfortably saw the rest of the game out.
A tough win for the boys, they did themselves proud in difficult conditions, lets see more of the passing football next week. For man of the match, original thought was to give it to the whole team, because every one of them contributed really well! Kyle was given the job of keeping an eye on their biggest threat and he did this excellently and was a threat in his own right, while Ethan kept up his scoring record and set up the second and held the ball up well, while Kieran made some crucial saves in the first half. Ben worked really hard and was very strong in the tackle, Joseph playing in a more advanced position, put in some lovely crosses and calm on the ball, but today I thought our success was built on our two excellent central defenders! Just edging it then for me, showing a great attitdue in playing out of position without complaint was Josh, strong in the tackle, read the game nicely, got forward and became an attacking threat, cleared when he needed to, but also knew when to pass it out as well.
Well played to all the boys, next week the challenge will be tough, as we face the league leaders Forest Hall, but play with the same attitude and I am sure the boys can do well.
