Genesis Vs Cathedral goes ahead with thanks to Travis for last a last ditch attempt to relocate the fixture.
As a pre match peace settler both teams lined up for a full squad handshake after the antics of this fixture last time around.
The game started off scrappy on a very bobbly playing surface. Standing slightly smaller than the opposition, Cathedral were battling to win the ball in the midfield and defence but with some arial dominace and managed to find some joy down either flank. The first real chance fell to an in form Ian Jeffery who skipped past a defender to fire the ball into the net with his weaker left foot. Ian is clearly saving his goals for Saturdays where it matters rather than on the training ground.
Andy Doc nearly made it 2 to the good after muscling his way through like a bull in a china shop from a killer through ball from Ian and tried to ute a tidy finish at the far post from an incredibly tight angle. Good save by the keeper, just stretching and reaching the ball with his toes.
Jon was at the heart of the next real chance and what a chance it was. Jon won the ball back not once but twice, one being in the box of genesis where he played a delightful low ball into the box where Doc smashed the ball into the crossbar from 6 yards. It was harder to miss, chants from the sideline were heard saying 'if only the chance fell to the other Doc'.
Genesis played a ball over the top where Lee the keeper came to claim and underestimated the speed and desire of the striker who knocked it around him and placed it into an empty net. Almost a carbon copy of the handful from Jacob Murphy this season.
Cathedral were unlucky again as the ball was placed to Doc who trapped it and played a supreme ball into Ian who was one on one with the goalie but only managed to blaze his shot over the cross bar, that would have certainly been a rugby conversion and 3 points in the bag, Ian had another half chance 2 minutes later on the spin with his back to goal.
Half time 1-1, overall a good contested match. Cathedral will consider themselves unlucky not being 1 or 2 goals up. The would have to play the second half against the wind which could prove to be difficult. Jon took this time to get a one on one lesson on taking a throw in from the referee.
One change at HT with Kieran being forced off due to a golf ball size swollen ankle and replaced by Ruddy. The second half kicks off.
Trav wins a free kick on the edge of the box with some fancy footwork. Quinny steps up to curl the freekick into the far corner. 2-1 Cathedral. BOOM
Genesis immediately bounce back with an unstoppable shot from outside the area into the bottom right corner, 2-2.
Cathedral were unlucky not to be awarded a pen when ian was taken down inside the area, poor decision from the ref.
A couple of opportunities has since fell to either side but all chances with no real conviction.
Genesis took all 3 points with 5 minutes to go as they pushed on and found them self on the end of a through ball which was slotted past the goalie.
Cathedral can count themselves unlucky not to take something from the game. Sorry for the short ending, I was running the line.
FT genesis 3-2 Cathedral
MOM given by Big Sam to Aman Guru but it was a tough decision between Quinny and Aman.
