It might have been overdue, it might have been considered a given but finally we get out win. A very much changed Leigh Ramblers came to play and spoil our day but were sent home with a smacked arse and a football lesson taught. It annoyed me that we had to concede first as we seem to do most weeks, it also annoyed me that Sam’s legitimate goal, when put through by Lee B was cancelled out by poor a poor decision and blatant cheating from the Ramblers linesman but I feel we used those incidents to power through and get a deserved win.

This week was like every other week we seemed to have the lions share of the ball, we created a lot of chances through Loui M, Lee B, Matt to mention a couple. Plus we played football all around the park, with Steve B rolling back about 20 years to look like a marauding wing back and Sam playing as a centre forward at times. This combined this with great performance from Joe, dean W and Adam S at defensive midfield and as I mentioned after the game, it was easy to see we finally raised our game and had more than enough quality to see of the ‘newer’ version of Leigh Ramblers.

The goals themselves were mostly all well taken with Dean’s leveller to make it 1-1 from a  late run into the box and a smart finish to the left of the keeper and just inside the post. Then Hatboy was introduce for Dean M he almost immediately obliged with a subtle header from a delightful cross from the constant menace Lee B, making it 2-1. Dean W then held a few discussions around a set piece with Adam S, took control then took the piss and placed it top right, keeper beaten all ends up. Then finally the newly introduce Scotty L slide a slide rule pass to Lee B who slipped the ball under the keeper to get his just rewards for a very good performance, 4-1 game done.

We also had a hatful of other chances Sam R missed from the middle of the goal from a well made team move; we had another headed of the line, Loui M had another goal disallowed because, well who the hell knows. He beat the defender ran into the box placed it to the left of the keeper and then got caught offside. Answers to that riddle please?

So in general and for a change we get the right result, our attitudes and our performances finally meet our individual quality and team potential. I did mention I’m not going to get to excited, we still have a long way to go, but every team need time and every team need to find a rhythm that fits them I think this may have been the week we found out that our rhythm needs to be belted out for 90 minuets and our time has to be made to feel worth while. Everyone needs to play for 90 not just a few. Coming off the park and thinking I could have had 6 man of the match awards rather than who should I give it too is a welcome problem. One I would like to have each and every week.

Thorpe at home next week, this brings a good challenge and one we shouldn’t be scared of attacking.
