League

For the only unbeaten team in the league BKS simply were not really much of a challenge. Their football was one dimensional and even with a 2 goal league they were holding on when we finally got into gear. We were wasteful in front of goal with a complete hatful of chances wasted from an almost endless list of people and we were to slow at the start and end of the game which basically cost us the rightful victory we should have had.

Much can be said then to our league challenge, we are giving points away when we shouldn’t be and we are not going for the throat when we see teams wounded, this needs to be rectified. We do have a long way to go before the league takes shape so I’m not to worried about positions at the moment but we need to be more alive at the start of games and more aware at the end of them also or we will not get our just rewards like today.

To build form this game the points are sharp and short, we need to move the ball faster and we need to get at teams a bit quicker so they don’t settle into a rhythm and finally we need to be more alive on dead ball situations. We made some changes again to the squad so this is another big plus. We have 7 more to get involved that’s not including the 2 we reintroduced this week in Big Joe and Steve B who both had solid games in defence along side Gavin and Nana. We also had solid games from both Deans and I felt Loui M had an outstanding 70 mins before dropping onto left back for the injured Steve. Brad also had a fine second half display making a number of great saves to give us the confidence to push higher up the pitch to look for a winner.

Where does this leave us then, we need to continue in the same vein and push a little harder to get an earlier advantage over our opponents. We have goals in us; this week it was both deans with great goals that secured our point. Dean M linking up with the midfield playing a quick 1-2 with Loui R and then slotting to the right of a stranded keeper. Then the howitzer, ripping the top left corner of the net, which left Dean W’s left foot when he latched onto Nana’s Phantom assist.

So we scored these great goals  and then tried to go for a winner……not quiet we kind of stopped our energetic start to the first half and allow BKS to get away with a point they didn’t deserve. This could have been because of the changes we and the opponents made through tactical and injury requirements or through the fact we took our pedal of the gas, but in general we were better than a draw and should have buried an ex-premier league standard team. Plus points all round then.

I feel our subs both came on and were effective, Paul Shaw came on to disrupt and strengthen our midfield, and Martin came on to try to steal in and grab a goal. We will strengthen for our next game and we played BKS at full strength, which is good because we have seen all they have to offer, they have only seen us getting up to pace.

Our next game is verses Thundersley 1sts at John Burrows ground, just around the corner to The Deanes. Let’s be up for it from the start so we can get our just rewards and not get robbed like we did this week. I don’t mind picking up points but I do hate being the best team for the last four weeks and only getting the minimum reward from it. I’m sure you all feel the same.
