Gladwin Cup
Today’s game was a complete exhaustion of ideas and muscles. On one of the hottest days of the year, when temperatures were hotter thanNorth Africa, we descended into playing a tight competitive game verses BKS. The first half was end to end and very open, a little too open for me. Our defence was solid with big performances from Adam H, Gavin and Nana and although we were not spreading the ball enough to use our width our attack was dangerous.
We forced a series of chances which we didn’t really capitalise on and although we come up against a good side in, the ex- premier standard Shoebury team (BKS), we matched them in most areas. We didn’t move the ball fast enough and we laboured in the heat so passes went astray and the final ball wasn’t as easy as it normally is. To be honest very few highlights arose, Brad pushed a shot over the bar and Killer somehow kneed the ball over from a corner. In general we cancelled each other out.
When we sat down to discuss the first half we decided we were not really going all out against the opponents, we had another gear to find but BKS were there to make it very hard for us. So about 5 minuets in when we broke and had 5 against 1 in the opponents half there was a slight sign we were getting an advantage. Hat boy finished the move with aplomb, low to the keeper right and 1-0 said the score. Less than 60 seconds and a school boy error later, it was 1-1 and our grip on the game was wasted.
To be honest I was a little caught with mixed emotion, we had just taken the deserved lead against a good side then we conceded a very silly goal to make us start all over again. Too make matters worse 5 more minuets and another error we were 2-1 down and the opponents had a little room to breathe. It was the first time in the match they looked the more willing to work hard and also the first time we looked a little fragile.
We never really stopped all game and we never really looked out of the match against BKS. A compliment to us was the was in which they cheered at the end of the game they knew they had been in a battle and as confident as they were they only just got the advantage. So it shouldn’t surprise anyone for me to mention I’m not too dissatisfied with the performance, we were missing 4 or 5 players and any other day we might have been going through to the next round.
After the game I expressed one desire to help us next week, we need to pull the trigger a little more when we fashion a chance. Its hard for me to express this enough but the level we play is decided on fine margins and one of them is shots on target. The first half provided with precious few, the second only a handful. Each of the players in this side can hit the ball clean and true so let’s apply more pressure to the keeper and the opponents defence by trying our luck a little.
This cups now over, we have one more to challenge for and next week brings tough League game verses Ashingdon. Let’s get off the mark and get a little more confident in front of goal lads, turn up to have fun and play.

No chance with either goal, otherwise solid. Plus a silly dive to hurt yourself

Great goal and superb runs on the ball. Perhaps too deep at times

Showed every time to help out the midfield, this then led to you being too deep
