Home league match played on 06 January 2013.
Kicked off at 10:30 AM

A decent result on the whole lads but I think we can count ourselves a tad unlucky not to take away all three points.

I thought we started brightly and quickly looked to get in possession to try and dictate the pace of the game although St John’s made it difficult for us which meant for an even first few exchanges. Both teams had their chances to score during the first half but it was St John’s who went the closest. A clearance from a corner fell to the St John’s defender who wasn’t nearly closed down quick enough by our front men and was allowed to stroll forward and unleash a fierce strike which rattled the crossbar.

Our best chance of the half fell to me and then Raymond. Superb wing play from Mumford down the left hand side resulted in a cut back for myself but instead of going for goal (surprise, surprise), I decide to lay the ball on for Steve B, although my pass actually ended up falling to Raymond who could only spoon his effort over the bar. Admittedly , I should have been the one going for goal and should have scored so I’ll put my hands up to that.

The last 20 minutes of the first half were all us and we didn’t really want to hear the half time whistle which St John’s were more than happy to hear when it did come. HT 0-0.

The second half was again, a very tight affair with both teams having their chances to score. We probably had the clearest opportunities to score with Stevie Bruce going close on at least three separate occasions. St John’s will feel that they had the majority of the play during the second half which they probably did overall but without making any clear cut chances apart from one glaring miss from their midfielder who from a matter of yards out, managed to blaze his shot over the bar. A massive let off as far as we were concerned.

I thought we lacked a bit of fight in the second half, especially up top as a lot of the balls that were going forward up to our front two were coming straight back. I do understand that trying to win a header with a burly centre half can be a task in itself but a challenge for the ball is the very least I expect.

I was surprised by St John’s constant moaning and protesting but some teams are like that and we have to let them get on with it and not shy away from what was a tough game to be involved in, especially during the second half.

I thought the defense were once again immense today with Lukey G yet again playing out of his skin so can’t give MOM to anyone over than him.

Overall, not a bad result at all and we can be proud of our work rate and discipline. Woking & Maybury this weekend which won’t be as easy a game as the table might suggest, especially after our previous game with them a few months back.

Lets bounce back with a win!!
