What a victory lads!! I thought we played exceptionally well, especially under the extremely boggy conditions. The first half in particular was a joy to be a part of. Plenty of pace, aggression and ruthlessness in front of goal.
We started the game as well as I can remember us starting any game. We immediately got on the front foot by knocking the ball about well and it wasn’t long before we took the lead. A good ball in behind of the Pixham by my good self, found Cutler who scored brilliantly past the onrushing Pixham keeper! 0-1.
It wasn’t long before we went further ahead. Good play again led to the ball falling to Danny H on the right hand side who cut inside on to his left foot and finished well past the keeper for 0-2 with not even 10 minutes gone. Pixham were clearly rattled and it was clear to see that there were more goals in this game for us.
0-2 soon became 0-3 after Danny H was clearly upended in the penalty area. Ivan took the resulting penalty kick and made no mistake. 0-3.
The goals were coming think and fast and it wasn’t long before 3-0 became 4-0. Harry managed to dance his way inside from the left and then tried his luck from just outside the penalty area and saw his shot loop high and eventually over the despairing keeper. A fluky goal to say the least but a goal all the same! 0-4
The 5th goal followed soon after and it has to be my favorite of the game. Danny H, typically cut inside on his favored left on the right hand side, shot which deflected off a Pixham player and looped high up in the air which the keeper was clearly unaware of as the ball bounce directly behind him and into the goal. A goal you couldn’t help but laugh at but we’ll take it!!
We probably got a bit overconfident at this point and managed to concede which was frustrating considering how in control we were. Luke G came off second best in a 50-50 with the Pixham striker who had a clear run on goal and made no mistake by dispatching his shot past Luke H. 1-5
We immediately got back on the front foot after conceding and soon made it 6. Great play down the left again led to the ball finding its way to Ivan who made no mistake by placing his past the keeper into the corner of the net despite my calls for him to play me in instead! 1-6.
It wasn’t long before we added another goal to our tally, this time through Danny H again. Another move down the left fell to the feet of Danny H who placed his net into the far corner of the goal for his second and our 7th!! 1-7.
We started the game with a brilliant team goal and we finished the first half with a brilliant team goal. A superb counter attack move from Mumford, Danny H & Ivan saw us score from our own half with no more than 5 or 6 touches!! Great wing play from Mumford saw him cut inside and find Danny H wide out on the left who then played a superbly weighted ball into the path of Ivan who dispatch his effort coolly past the Pixham keeper for his hat-trick and our final goal of the half! 1-8 HT.
The second half was quite a tame affair, especially compared to the first. We very much played within ourselves which was understandable considering the score although we did have a few opportunities which were blazed well over by Harry & Danny H. Pixham did offer slightly more of an attacking threat in the second half but we nothing we didn’t deal with comfortably.
I could have given MOM to several players today but I though Ivan deserved the accolade with his three goals and overall play.
MASSSIVE game next weekend against top of the table Bylfeet Royals and a game we can go into full of confidence after this display!!
