Another great performance today, lads and a perfect way to end our pre season.

We started in the same way we have started every game in pre season, on the front foot, looking to catch the opposition out early on. We knocked the ball around well and it seemed only a matter of time before we would take the lead and for all our good football, we took a lead in rather fortunate circumstances. Raymond played a delightful ball in behind the right full back which was meant for Eddy which the JB defender who could only deflect his intended interception into his own net. A lucky break but we were worthy of the 1-0 lead.

We continued to dominate after taking the lead but did needlessly get involved in a few disagreements with some of the JB players. We all get frustrated from time to time, especially when opposing players are flying in with late challenges but we need to try and rise up all the ‘handbags’ and let our football do the talking.

We then had a chance to stretch  our lead after Steve Bruce was upended in the penalty area. Ivan stepped up and missed the resulting penalty but would have been relieved to hear the referee order a retake due to unsporting behavior by one or two of the JB players. Ivan didn’t make the same mistake again and coolly dispatched the retake, sending the keeper the wrong way in the process. Steve Bruce turned provider again a short while later with a superb cross which was met with an equally superb header by Raymond. 3-0 with about 30 minutes gone and we seemed to be cruising to victory.

We then probably took our foot of the gas after our third goal went in which wasn’t any great surprise considering were 11-2 up on aggregate at this point in time! JB took advantage of this and managed to score two goals in quick succession to make the game 3-2 going into half time. We spoke about starting the second half as quickly as we started the first half at half time and we didn’t disappoint with several chances being carved out in the opening exchanges of the second half. Steve Bruce then got himself on the score sheet again, albeit through a deflection off an unlucky JB defender. We continued to dominate the majority of the second half although I think it would be a disservice to not mention that JB did have their own chances to score but failed to capitalize.

We the sealed a well deserved victory through Eddy who burst through on the left hand side and loop the ball over the keeper into the top right hand corner of the JB net. Excellent finish with the keeper absolutely no chance. 5-2 on the day and 13-4 over two legs. Two quiet brilliant displays lads and plenty of promise to take into the new season.

MOM today goes to Ivan who I think we all agreed was excellent today although several of you had terrific games which would usually have earned you the MOM award on any other day.

First game of the season on the 9th September lads. Hope your all up for it as much as me!! COYH!!!!!
