Dreams were dreamed as CCK went into this game against County Reserve team Ringmer. The Badgers went into this game without the influential Mike Morrison so Tim Rose was brought into centre midfield. In truth this game stared with two evenly matched sides batlling to create chances and it was CCK who seemed to pose the bigger threat .Nathan Wrigglesworth and Matt Vitty were looking sharp and an opportunity arose when a Ringmer defender had adjuged to have made a back pass -Defender Mike Spence hit a powerful shot which was deflected over. Ringmer did have one glorious chance but their striker miskicked the ball in the area. CCK did force a save from the keeper when Mike Preston burst into the area and played in Tim Rose the misdfielder couldn;t get any power on his shot as the Ringmer goalkeeper came out quickly. CCK were holding their own and stout defending from the back four reduced Ringmer to a handful of corners-still CCK probed but dissaster struck when Ringmer broke and in a rare moment threatened the CCK goalMike spence slipped and caught the Ringmer forward and the refereee had no choice but to point at the spot , Dave Sewell seemed to be winning small battles in the centre of Midfield and got a black eye for his trouble. CCK had a few long tange efforts but couldn't find the net. CCK went into the half time break 1-0 down and could feel some injustice in that scoreline. However, a suspected half time roasting from the Ringmer coach brought them out with a renewed energy and determination and on around 57 minutes they had doubled their lead as a player cut inside on the left and drove a powerful shot past keeper Muzzall. CCK were struggling to gain control of the game as Ringmer started to produce some slick passing and on around 70 minutes had increased their lead after a fine team passing movement was finished brilliantly. However the best was to come, despite the tallness of the task CCK never gave in and kept trying to salvage something from the game. Manager Mike Melville-Reed brought on Charlie Jones Ben Tucker and late in the game Ben Weaver. It was on the 8oth minute when Substitute Jones was played in by Mike Spence chipped the ball past the Ringmer defenfder and after holding him off , as the keeper advanced, finished it with an exquisite chip over his head. It was a fitting moment for him and no more than the Badghers effort deserved.CCK continued to search for another, with Jones and Cassell shooting from long range, but Ringmer, held on and ended deserved winners. Dreams were dreamed for for yet another year will remain dreams.
After the game manager Mike Melville-Reed said 2I am so proud of them they gave everything today and were neither outclassed or disgraced-Ringmer deserved to win and we wish them all the best for the next round, my thoughts are now on the up and coming O & G game I would say that is the biggest game of our season so far "
Dave Sewell added "We can hold our headsup after that performance, O&gG BRING IT ON!!"
