CCK went into this game seeking a forth successive victory and send off Josh Rumble-Browne with the knowledge they would still be top of the league moving into October. There was a debut for Godfrey Muneri who partnered Matt Vitty/ On paper it was a game The Badgers should have won comfortably but with a scorching heat and a very enthusiastic opponents a walk over was never on the cards, CCK rarely managed to find the rhythm that had seen off previous opponents but on those moments they did find some fluentcy, they still possessed more of a threat in front of goal than their opponants, with Muneri showing some nice touches and Matt Vitty finding energy that seemed lacking from most of his team mates. The defence was being marshalled superbly by Mike Spence supported just as affectively by Jacob Fortescue. The Badgers suddenly found a spell of neat interplay starting in the midfield with Dave Sewell and Mike Morrison, Matt Vitty came deep and fed Mike Preston who found Godfrey Muneri-his cross was cleared but only as far as the advancing Josh Rumble who fired perfectly, a fittingly on his last appearance, into the bottom corner. However catastrophe was to follow when American Express Equalised with a scrappy goal that was to be fair, finished well. CCK tried to respond and Mike Morrison saw a shot scrape the post. Mike Spence long throws into the box was always a real threat, but American Express renewed vigour saw them, to their credit upset the Badgers rhythm-which was further disrupted by Mike Preston struggling in the heat having to be replaced by Jonny Cassell. The CCK defence was holding firm but the Badgers seemed to be getting over run in the middle of the park. The second half saw Godfrey Muneri replaced by Tim Rose as CCK moved to a five man midfield and they certainly seemed to show more threat, Jonny Cassell had a chance to score but blasted over and a Mike Spence throw nearly provided a goal. However , it was that man Josh Rumble who produced a cross which was headed home by skipper Dave Sewell. A collection of fouls on Mike Morrison became the order of the day and one particularly nasty challenge on Tim Rose surprisingly, saw no card branded. However a yellow card was raised in what can only be described as the most bizarre decision of the day. Mike Morrison seemed to be fouled and as he fell his hands touched the ball-the referee deemed this to be deliberate handball and booked the CCK midfielder awarding a freekick to American Express . The victory however was sealed by this moment as American Express seemed to run out of steam. However the day was all about Josh Rumble Browne and a perfect September for CCK.
Manager Mike Melville-Reed said afterwards “ It wasn’t pretty but I like to focus on the positives, Tim Rose looked class when he cam on and I don’t think there is a much better defensive pairing in this league than Jake and Mike-but this day was all about Rumble and we wish him all the best with Bristol. City.
Josh Rumble said leaving CCK was the hardest thing I have had to do but I like to think I played my part in what will be a great season.”
