The Allsorts came into this game slightly rejuvinated after last weeks strong performance, rightly feeling they could have got a point against strong opposition. The feeling among the team was that there was a chance for a win, and with the new warmup of doing nothing before the game they ran out onto the pitch infront of a rapturous crowd. Perenially injury proned Smallsy was sidelined so joint top scorer Andy came in.
The Allsorts started well, with many noting how we had more of the ball than usual. Alarmingly this didnt unsettle anyone, and the lads seemed to thrive off it. The game was fairly open, with S4G getting in a couple of dangerous positions early on but the tenacious Allsorts tracking back well to stop any danger. The lads grew in confidence and with the added pressure of Smallsy standing in as club photographer, every one wanted to be in the action. With a sitter missed by Mayes created by himself and a couple more chances gone begging, the Allsorts were doing all but scoring. Then another attack for the Allsorts created the move of the day as some slick passing from a throw in allowed Adamsy to flick the ball round the corner for super Andy to roll the ball in. The Allsorts were deservedly ahead and went into HT with their tails up.
The 2nd half started with the Allsorts on the back foot and one corner after another from S4G had the guys worried. Whilst they didnt create many good chances, keeper Bushell had to be on guard and held on well to any long shots preventing any spills.
Halfway through the 2nd half The Allsorts nemesis The Diamonds arrived to the stadium cheering on S4G. With the game still on edge The Allsorts needed that 2nd goal for safety.. then it happened. Sammy Mayes went and scored with a moment of magic. He picked up the ball on the halfway line, goasted past one, past another, rinses another and pokes the ball home with a cry of 'GET IN' infront of the barmy away fans, goading The Diamonds in the process. A truely magical moment. Temporary club photographer Smallsy has refused to be drawn into comments that he gave up camera duties and was celebrating with the clubs fans. Photographic evidence has been seen and he will probably recieve a fine.
The Allsorts kept battling on and dug in for the last few minutes, however conceded a last kick goal with a tody finish from the opposition. From the roll out the whistle was blown and Allsorts could celebrate their 2nd win, moving them out of the relegation zone (for now).
The belief is there, however will probably be shattered with a tough next fixture against AKATHESTIGS, who will be gunning for us after the robbery of a draw last time.
