The Galacticos named an unchanged side for the 3rd consecutive week and traveled to the outskirts of Essex to face Prestige Worldwide in the county cup who where currently unbeaten and top of their league.
Immediately when the game started it was obvious that it was going to be a tough game with Prestige passing the ball and moving quickly, but on 5 minutes Galacticos got the perfect start when Yeo won the ball in midfield and drove to the byline and pulled the ball back to Ratcliffe was on hand to place home from 5 yards to keep us his run of goals since his return from injury. 4 minutes later Yeo again was creator winning the ball in the midfield and passing to Orr outside the box who turned and hit the ball first time from 20 yards into the bottom right hand corner to give the away side an early 2-0 lead. Prestige now came at Witham all guns blazing and were popping the ball about and swinging numerous balls into the box but Murphy and Clark where on hand to clear the lines. Our usual front 4 of McCormack, Lawes and Yeo where pinned in their own half battling for every ball and working there socks off with Ratcliffe continuously tracking back to support Stone who was dealing with Prestige's tricking winger and adventurous full back. Cannock was called upon time and time again and was reliable as ever collecting every ball in a ten yard radius of him and was directing the whole front line in front of him.
HALF TIME Prestige Worldwide 0 Witham Galacticos 2
The second half began exactly as the first half ended with the home side pushing forward. Within 5 minutes both the Galactico full backs of Stone and Humphry's made vital interceptions. On 50 minutes Prestige where controversially back in the game after Clark's clearance looked to have gone out of play for a corner, the home teams striker took a touch and blasted the ball home. To Witham's surprise the referee ignored the linesman and Witham's plea's and gave the goal. Witham knew they had to deal with an onslaught and dig deep to get the win which is what they did. Orr was fighting for scraps up top and worked extremely hard to press the defence to restrict their output and the wingers of Ratcliffe and McCormack ran themselves into the ground trying to be an outlet from the constant pressure. Lawes, Yeo and Vicarge were planted infront of the back four to restrict the home teams build up play and worked tirelessly. In the final 20 minutes Clark, Murphy and Cannock showed superb leadership and determination alongside their team mates to protect Witham's lead and see the Galacticos into the third round of the County Cup
A superb showing of guts and determination from the Galacticos inspired a very good win against quality opposition. It was very pleasing to see everyone work and fight for each other as a team. Man of the Match was Adam Clark who lead from the back and put his body on the line to protect the lead, a superb performance from our vice captain. There was also fantastic showings from Adam' Partner at the back Jack Murphy who to put his body on the line and fought for every single ball and last but not least Shannon Cannock in goal who had a superb game, he controlled the back 4 for 90 minutes and made numerous good saves and interceptions.
Well done boys a truly remarkable showing from all of you
