Witham switched from league to cup action on Sunday and was hosts to Division 3 side Olney Arms in the Charlie Turnball. Galacticos lined up unchanged from the previous week but welcomed back Aaron Holder from injury.
Witham started brightly but also the opposition weren't afraid to keep the ball either. Witham had the first clear chance when Humphry found Yeo in behind the back four but the Olney keeper made a good save to keep the game even. It didnt last long when Panting scored a superb lob over the keeper from 20 yards when the ball fell to him from an initial block from the oppositions defender. 4 minutes late Galacticos were 2-0 up when Murphy won a penalty after he was pushed in the back when attempting to win a header from a corner, Yeo as ever converted from the spot. Witham started quickly and brightly as instructed and increased their lead just 3 minutes later when Jamie Lawes was on hand to tap in after Clarks shot went across goal. Olney then gave themselves a chance when a poor clearance was smashed in top the top corner from 20 yards to make it 3-1. It was short lived though as Yeo was again on the scoresheet after 31 minutes with a cool and calm finish and 7 minutes later Humphry got his second goal in as many games when he collected a quick throw-in from Lawes and placed the ball home from 18 yards.
HALF TIME WITHAM GALACTICOS 5 OLNEY ARMS 1
Witham brought on there two substitutes and the use of the roll on roll off subs was used throughout the rest of the game. Orr was straight away involved on 48 minutes when he flicked the ball to Lawes who opened up his body and placed the ball into the bottom right hand corner. Yeo then completed his hat trick when he collected a quick throw-in from Adams 20 yards out drove in on goal and smashed the ball home to make it 6 goals in 3 games for the captain and 5 in his last 2 from the central strikers role. Stoneham was in the thick of everything alongside the impressive Humphry and again both there creativity and solidness was highly recognised throughout. Jackson then pulled off a wonder save from the keeper when he let fly with a 25 yard volley and minutes later he narrowly missed connecting with a header as he still chases his first goal for WGFC. Orr then got his second goal in two games when he collected the ball just inside the Olney half and drove on goal then neatly buried the ball past the keeper to make it 8-1. Lawes was close to grabbing his hat trick at the end when the keeper pulled off a smart save.
FINAL SCORE WITHAM GALACTICOS 8 OLNEY ARMS 1
Another good performance and keeps up the unbeaten run this season. Pleasing to see everyone putting in good performances and again we showed good discipline and character throughout. Adam Clark has done well and fought his way back into the team with a dominant performance on Sunday and its good to see Jackson and Panting still playing at a consistently strong level. We have shown that we have goals in us with Lawes and Yeo banging them in this year and Orr and Humphry scoring in back to back games. Man of the match this week goes to Harry Stoneham who put in a great work mans like performance and has maintained this level when switching between winger and midfielder, he was pushed strongly by Humphry who again put in a great performance in the middle of the park.
Back to league action next week when we entertain Old Bramstionians at home and a win puts us back on top of the pile
