The UNITS missed a host of chances yet again but this time were punished by a spirited Kewford side as we crashed 1-0 this morning, only our 2nd league defeat of the season
Pre-game we were a rabble, we had no shows, hangovers and latecomers, unlike us and hardly set the tone, in the end we started with Mala, Chinner, Barney, Kirbs, Darbs, Coco, Ross, Baker, Turner, Taylor & Marcus
Subs were Eggy, Penna, Ash, Jim and Lacey
The pitch was heavy but the UNITS started on the front foot, Kewford were working hard and closing down well as the first 10 minutes were nothing more than a midfield battle
On 15 we almost took the lead when Chinner whipped in a delightful cross which Marcus headed over from 6 yards. 5 minutes later we had a huge penalty shout turned down when Ross was tripped in the box by the commited defender but the referee waved play on
Kewfords first attempt on goal came just before the half hour mark but their forward shot wide from 20 yards, Mala having the effort covered
On 30 Taylor played in Marcus who on his right foot in the 18 yard box dragged his shot wide when clean through
On 35 some lovely football involving Turner, Taylor and Baker released Ross who crossed to the back post where Coco and Marcus couldn't apply the touch with the goal gaping
The UNITS had a host of corners leading up to half time but despite going close couldn't force the opening goal
HT 0-0
Cuzer shuffled the side around a little at half time as our build up play was predictable but the personnel stayed the same
The 2nd half started as the first ended with Kewford working hard but the game being one way traffic towards the Kewford goal
Coco went close from his now advanced position and Taylor had a low shot saved
However on 55 with their first shot on target Kewford took the lead, a corner was cleared to the edge of the box, Tayl's lost out on the 2nd header and as the ball came back in their midfielder had a volley slightly deflected into the bottom corner
It was a traversty we were behind but regardless of being on top we were playing nothing like what we were capable of
Just after the hour mark Darbs headed against the bar and from another corner the ball was stabbed goalwards with the Kewford keeper clawing the ball over the bar
Jim replaced Turner then Ash replaced Marcus as the UNITS tried to freshen things up
We kept plugging away but clear chances were few and far between despite 90% of the game being played in the Kewford final 3rd, Kirbs had an overhead kick go agonazingly wide of the post and numerous balls were dropping in the 6 yard box where we just couldn't put the ball in the net
Our corner count must have been 25 as the referee played 7 minutes injury time and from our last corner Chinner missed a free header from 6 yards to sum up a shockingly disappointing day for the UNITS
Man of the match went to Andy Baker who put some of his team mates to shame with his work rate & desire
