Glenfield go to Town with Trinderbox
Top of division 5 trinderbox played 6th in the premier. It was made harder because Trinderbox were without Gomez, James , Leigh & George. There was a new partnership in midfield of Calvin, Mike, Wickesy & Wade Bell. The latter two making their debuts for Trinberbox. The game started lively with flowing passes from both teams. Adam Corbett in Goal made a good save early on after 7 minutes, before the deadlock was broken with a 30 yard volley from Wayne dean that dipped over the goalie to give Trinderbox a deserved lead on 9 minutes. It was a real cup tie, with typical end to end football of the highest quality. They were matching the premier side man for man.
Then on 15 minutes, disaster. Some slack marking at the back led to a tap in for Glenfield. Trinderbox came back strongly, but poor cover on 20 minutes gave another soft goal to Glenfield Town to make it 2 – 1. Four minutes later, it was 3-1 when a perfectly flighted ball from the left found the Town striker in position to nod in from close range by the far post. 24 minutes on the clock and the underdogs looked in disarray after a po src="../../../../JS/tinymce/jscripts/tiny_mce/themes/advanced/langs/en.js" type="text/javascript"> or 9 minutes spell.
The ball was in the net again on 36 minutes but it was after the whistle had been blown for handball. The resultant penalty was dramatically saved by Adam “the cat” Corbett. This seemed to give the away side greater heart. The midfield began to take a grip on the game with the new combination working well. Luke was chasing down unselfishly and Wayne was also working hard up front. 3-1 at half time.
After a frank half time team talk where the negatives were quickly dismissed for the more positives from the excellent team work of the first half. Trinderbox had, for all but a mad 9 minutes been more than a match for the loftiness of the premiership side. Kicking down hill suited and the half began well with Chris Bodycote tested the Town goalie on 47 minutes.
It was all trinderbox for the next 10 minutes but they couldn’t get the final ball through, or a clear shot on goal. The eventual Man Of The Match Adam Corbett had made a dazzling first half display and was given little to do in the second half. All the momentum was with the away team .
On 75 minutes with some tricky, neat footwork and dazzling dribbling skills in the box by Chris Bodycote laid on a chance for Wade Ball who scored a spectacular goal to make it 3 – 2. Dennis Ricketts then came off the bench to add his considerable height to the defence, and a tactical switch gave the visitors the edge in the final 15 minutes. Steve (the mod) Trinder came on a few minutes later as the game entered its final stages.
It was anyone’s game & Trinderbox were still in the driving seat when Wayne Dean hit a screamer that was just off target with 5 minutes left. The away team were still pushing for the equaliser when the final whistle blew, with a vey even game just being shaded by the Premier side Glenfield.
