Not the display we were looking for ahead of next weeks cup semi final against Ballysillan. Basement went one up on 10 mins when the ball bounced over our defence into the path of the Basement forward to slam home 0-1, 2 mins later Winky played a one two with Gazza and then with Boot before shooting narrowly wide, Aaron then had a shot which was well saved by there keeper before Basement went two up, once again we tried to play offside with a high line and once again we got caught out leaving there player free to run on and score past the helpless Ryan 0-2, Winky had another effort that skimmed the post before Tommy headed us back in it meeting Aarons corner 1-2, and on 35 minutes Aaron won a tackle on the edge of there box and as the ball found its way to Boot he made no mistake slamming in the equaliser 2-2, Aaron then played a one two with Gazza then tried to chip there keeper who made the save, Davro hit a shot just wide on 40 mins before we were once again caught out playing a high line and once again Basement scored from it half time 2-3. We began the second half better and missed two glorious chances to get level when first Dede headed wide from a corner and then Winky once again missing the target dragging his header wide from another corner, we had legitimate appeals for a penalty turned down before we were level again when a quick throw in from Stuarty put Aaron through to blast into the corner 3-3, Aaron then found himself one on one with the keeper which was saved and he then powered down the right and fired in a cross for Boot to fire home only for the clown of a referee to not give us the goal even though it was clearly over the line, to make matters worse shortly after that, confusion between Tommy and Dede allowed there player to sneak in and score 3-4, just after the hour mark Gazza blazed over the bar from a throw in, Winky hit a thunder bolt just wide and Aaron found himself one on one again before shooting over the bar, it was all St Andrews at this stage as chance after chance went begging, Aaron crossing for Boot who fired over and Boot again with a chance after being put in by Gazza but his shot went wide, Aaron then fired over the bar and with ten miutes remaining we got the equaliser our pressure deserved when Davros deflected cross found the head of Gazza 4-4, we went in search for the winner with Tommy finding himself free in the box but his poor header went wide then Gazza put Aaron through only to flick his shot wide and right at the end Gazza was clean through on goal but had his shot saved and as Aaron played the ball back in Gazza shot wide of the post, final score 4-4.
A much improved performance needed for next weeks big game as we cant afford any mistakes against Ballysillan, if everyone goes out and tries there best and gives there all then i couldnt ask for more, we are the underdogs with nothing to lose but pride but if everyone puts it in and gives 100% then irrespective of the score we can feel proud.
Comon the Saints lets give it a go!!!
