Another valuable 3 points for the wee St Andrews in a hard fought battle with our name sake St Andrews B. The first half was a poor spectacle with very few chances as we struggled to play the free flowing football were more than capable of and with St Andrews B relying on the long ball root it was a forgetable first half. The first clear cut chance on goal fell to St Andrews B on 20 minutes with their striker firing in a shot from the edge of the box which big Simon got down well to save, a few minutes later Aaron swung in a corner to the edge of the box which Adrian hit sweetly on the half volley which sailed just over the bar. Against the run of play we took the lead when Glenn hit a free kick which fell to Boot inside the B teams box and he skilfully fired us into a 1-0 lead, that was to last all but 3 minutes when some hesitant defending allowed St Andrews B to fire in an equaliser 1-1, things got worse for us as we became disorganised to allow st Andrews B to take the lead just before half time 2-1 to the B team. A few heated exchanges where dealt out at half time to give us the kick up the klinks which we needed as we came out for the second half a reformed team, Davy had a shot on the edge of their box producing a fine save from B team keeper which resulted in a corner, Winky swung in the corner which fell to the predator Boot to fire in the equaliser, we began to take the ascendancy as we pushed forward for the winner, Davy once again trying his luck from the edge of the box which there keeper tipped over the bar, on 70 mins we got a free kick in there half which Glenn swung into the box it fell to Winky who expertly guide his header into the far corner of the net to give us a 3-2 lead, a different St Andrews C had come out for the second half as we pressed the B team in their own half, 75 mins Adrian played a lovely thru ball to Aaron who calmly finished 4-2 to the C team, Daryl then came on for the tiring Winky, 5 mins later we told Daryl to get warmed up hes coming off J, Aaron then had a chance to put the result beyond doubt when clean through with ten mins to go only to blaze his shot over the bar, that could have been costly as just a minute later St Andrews B pulled another goal back with Simon failing to take control of his area allowing St Andrews B to claw the score back to 4-3, thankfully after what seemed ages of injury time we held on for a valuable 3 points, a poor first half was wiped away with an impressive battling second half, if we want to win this league we need 90 minutes of battling which we are more than capable of!
