A very good performance yesterday from St Andrews as we gained a well deserved win against Glenbryn. Lawernce was back in centre mid with Winky pushing out to the left and Gazza moving to the right, we set our stall out from the off taking the game to Glenbryn and after just 5 minutes we had our first opportunity when Aaron forced a fine save from Glenbryn keeper from inside the box, 5 minutes later Davy found himself in the box only to shoot wide, after 10 mins Glenbryn took the lead against the run of play when Lawerence attempted clearance rebound to Glenbryn striker who scored past Simon 1-0 to Glenbryn, not to be deterred we continued to pile forward playing some good football and on 11 mins Aaron played a one two with Boot but shot over the bar, 25 mins Boot had a chance but also shot wide, Aarons turn again when put through on goal only to drag his shot wide, it was starting to look as though it wasnt gonna be our day as we continued to spurn missed opportunities and we were almost punished again for not taking our chances when Adrian lost possession Glenbryns winger played the ball to there forward whose shot was on target but big Simon was equal to it producing a fine save, a few minutes later Boot found himself with another chance to level for us but his shot was saved by Glenbryn keeper, half hour gone and Glenbryn broke free in our box and as there striker shot from close range Simon pulled of a quite brilliant save to push his shot over the bar, we continued to be the better footballing side as Glenbryn relied on the long ball route, we pushed forward again in search of the equaliser the ball falling to Davy who played the ball out right to Gazza who put a fine cross into the box and as the ball fell to Boot 10 yards from goal he looked sure to score but put his shot wide, on 37 minutes we eventually got the goal our play deserved when Davy fed the ball to Aaron who skipped past the defender and chipped the ball over the oncoming keeper and into the net 1-1, there was a brief hold up on play when Glenn and Glenbryn manager had bitta handbags at dawn with Glenn getting a dig on the coupon which must woke him up as he started to play better, forward we went again when on stroke half time Winky took a corner from the right and swung it in low and of the Glenbryn upright, we carried our impressive first half display into the second half in search of the winner, no changes were made in the second half, Daryl tried his best to get me to make changes commenting on his team mates errors with "thats another mistake he made" or "he seems to be struggling" and the classic "he looks like hes injured", theres nothing more i'd like than to give the subs a run out but although we were dominating Glenbryn were still a danger on the break, it was Boot who had our first chance in the second half forcing the keeper into making a save with a shot from inside the box, 5 minutes later Gazza played a super ball into the box which fell to Boot whos was having a nightmare and once again misfired putting the ball wide, an hour gone and Boot this time turned to provider putting in a good cross which fell to Gazza who blazed over, then on 68 minutes came the games most controversal moment when Glenbryn keeper placed the ball to take a goal kick but as the ball had not gone out of play and the ref not blowing for a goal kick Aaron seemed to be the only one to realise this and as he turned to the ref to get confirmation he rolled the ball into the net to give us the lead 2-1, Glenbryn reacted furiously to this with one of there players walking of then coming back on to get booked, Glenbryn only have themselves to blame as i say to my team constantly to always play to the refs whistle, even tho we had the lead we continued to push forward with Davy having a long range strike that went just wide, 77 minutes Aarons shot was well saved by the keeper and Boot missing again on 85, near the end Gazzas header went just over the bar and on 90 minutes Boots miserable afternoon was complete when Glenbryns defender slipped which left Boot clear on goal with only the keeper to beat he seemed to take an eternity and duly missed again, any other week i'd put my lot on him to score but after the game he was having he was bound to miss. This was probably our best performance to date as we begin to gel as a team, our opponents in the next round will either be Donegall Road YM or Ravenhill Ym away.
