After a real hard fought extra time victory in the Cup semi final last week View wanted after a much more relaxed and strait forward game. Thankfully View were up against Hove park tavern a team who he proved to be little competition for us only 3 weeks prior to this return leg.
The game started out as expected with View on the front foot making the most of the early play and having the lion share of possession.
Matt king and Aaron Munnery run the midfield from the off, this unexpected effectiveness was a massive boost as both players have a similar style. They provided an excellent balance of attack and defence (when required) combining well and playing simple football when required. Matt won everything in the air and Aaron broke in to the box well to add numbers something we have lacked most the season.
As View had all the ball troy and Mike were able to run riot down the right wing and continuously exploited Taverns lack of pace on the flanks. Troys crosses fell in good areas but somehow the shots missed the targets, I thought we were gonna be in for a long day… and we were!
Pete rolled the tavern CB and slipped in Philippe only for the keeper to make a wonder double save, and for Alex to fire just over from 20 yards out, all our chances were missing the target.
Alex simple destroyed every player who tried and failed to stop him, picking up loose balls and collecting short passes from Stuart before setting off on mazy runs. Perhaps missing his shooting boots today but worked well with Philippe and made some excellent chances for Pete also.
Pete was also on his game, but in my opinion he is a much more effective substitute, his hunger to prove his point off the bench makes him a real threat in front of goal. Pete again notched his token Lineker style tap in to keep one in front of Philippe in the goal scorers table.
Two own goals in the second half put Tavern to bed and made their late surge to score nothing more then a quest for a conciliation goal. Tavern came close as Levi was caught under the ball only for the Tavern forward to drive is shot right at Darren.
The match was ended nicely as Stuart fired in a penalty sending the keeper the wrong way, just deserves for a resilient defender who rarely ventures forward.
Notable mention:
Sharpy: a new addition to our team, looked very lively and destined to score goals when he is on the pitch. Hit the bar and won the penalty for Stuart.
Dave and Philippe for trying to claim an own goal…! (wankers) lol
Daz, thanks for getting the pegs and flags after the game, that was the extent of your involvement I believe.
Well do Lads,
Big one next week, Sharks are our only real chance left of dropping points this season. Win this and it’s our title to lose.
