After a shock defeat to EG Mavs earlier in the season giving them their first points we certainly felt we had a point to prove and we did just that. Only 2 changes from 2 weeks ago with Chris Wigley going in goal and was replaced by debutant Junior on pitch and Rob Wigley coming back in for Lewis. EG Mavs looked like they were missing a few players as it was obvious within the first few minutes that we had their number creating numerous chances from corners with Woodman rattling the bar twice in the first ten minutes. We found the breakthrough when the ball fell to Woodman from a corner and he played it out to Alex Smith on the edge of the box who cut inside and lashed it home with his left foot. This was shortly followed up when the same pair combined when another Smith shot was spilled and Woodman followed it up and slotted it under the on rushing keeper. Once again a corner led to a 3rd goal when Smith got the ball on the edge of the box and played it to Driver who tried curling one into the far corner and once again the keeper parried the ball into the path of the oncoming Woodman to grab his 2nd.
Half time came and we were in cruise control but we knew we couldn't let them have a sniff or get back into the game. We finished the game off within the first couple of minutes when Alex Smith picked up the ball and found debutant Junior on the wing who carved in and out of defenders before slotting the ball home. With that more goals followed and Woodman brought up his hatrick when the tricky Junior was brought down in the box and Woodman, allowed penalty duties to get his hat trick coolly placed the ball into the net. The wet conditions seemed to be a struggle for their unfortunate keeper when Alex Smith forced another shot to be spilled and he pounced on his own rebound to score the 6th. A few of the EG Mavs players started to get fed up and were putting fouls in, especially on Fernandez who was causing problems up top. One of these fouls led to a bizarre moment in the game when Fernandez was very harshly kicked by the defender and reacted by getting in the defenders face. The referee felt that Danny had attempted to headbutt the defender and sent him off yet only booked the defender for an awful tackle. Despite that we went on to score 3 more and it started straight from the foul for the freekick when Alex Smith put in an absolute belter of a free kick into the top corner. Shane O'Keeffe who had come on produced a fantastic run down the left wing before playing George in who casually finished for the 8th and the rout was finished when Junior played in Rob Wigley in the box who smashed the ball into the roof of the net from close range.
Another superb performance without really stepping out of 2nd gear. Chris Wigley didn't have much to do in goal and the defence did their job when called upon, Woodman especially with his 3 goals and one assist. Tulley and Smith did exactly what they did at Hamsey and bossed the midfield with Junior and Paul having great games on the wing, luck didn't fall for Gillett today but Danny was a nuisance and didn't deserve to get sent off. The subs also provided plenty when they came on. Woodman and Alex Smith were jointly given man of the match for their hat-tricks
