It was a day that didn't start too well, we'd gone from 15 to around 9 players at 9.30am Sunday morning and fortunately we scraped 11 and made the long haul down to Turners Hill. We got there and it got worse, the pitch was an absolute bog with 2 corners pretty much resembling muddy paddling pools but with the oppo providing the ref and seeing us with only 11 they fancied their chances and said the game was going ahead... Big mistake! The first game was only 2-0 to us but we took this game seriously and despite having 11 we had a top quality 11 filled with power, strength and speed. It started from the off, a long ball from Hames (I actually believe this to be a Lovell hoof assist) found Mikey up top who scooted past the defence and made it 1-0. It was clear from the off we were dominating and they could not handle the pace of Frankie on the left and Mikey up top with these 2 combining for the 2nd when Frankie was brought down in the box and Mikey converted the penalty. Mikey turned provided for the 3rd when he drove down the right and side and a rare (very rare) burst of pace from Driver in the middle allowed Mikey to look up and find Driver who slotted it past the keeper. Throughout the rest of the first half we dominated allowing only the rare shot from Crawley but we still went in at the interval at 5-0 thanks to Dean playing in Mikey who rounded the keeper for the 4th and some quality play from Frankie finding the far corner after being given the ball by hames a fair way out. Fraser was given respite from standing in the pouring rain in goal and Lorenc went in the sticks and his first touch of the ball in goal was dropping the ball from a free kick and allowing their striker to poke the ball between his legs, not a great start from the Albanian Bruce Grobbelaar. This wasn't going to deter us though and Lorenc barely had anything to do for the rest of the game! Hames made it 6 when his shot on target looped off a defender into the net and he was supplied by Tulley. Hames went for goal again in the next few minutes from the opposite side and like his opposite number the keeper spilled it between his legs and Mikey tapped into an open goal. They made it 7-2 with a superb spell of passing but that was blown out of the water by Hames who recieved the kick off from Dean and proceeded to beat every single Crawley player single handedly and scored within 10 seconds of the restart in an unbelieveable goal of the season contender. Frankie almost mirrored this not so long after making a 30 yard run beating 4 or 5 players before slotting home after recieving the ball from Mikey. Shortly after Driver played Fraser in down the left who looked up and played a delightful long range lob from 30 yards into the far corner of the net. At this point it was just pure dominance from Reigate with Crawley playing 6 forwards against Rob on his own allowing us to break in mass numbers. Tulley made it 11 with a tap in from a Hames ball and then Dean got a double up in quick succession with Frankie and Tulley getting the assists. Lewi and Lovell then came up from the back for a spell up top and they combined for no.14 with Lovell putting one in the corner. They then got a 3rd and we reverted to a 2 at the back with striker Mikey claiming to play the sweeper role before exclaiming "what is the sweeper" role and his only defensive contribution came from a hilarious flying header. To top the cherry on the cake after attempting to score from the kick off for 2 whole seasons the tank Matt Lewis lined up and fired one off at goal. It seemed to go forever as the ball, screaming through the air with the trajectory of an atomic bomb landed in the keepers outstreched arms and the pure power of the strike caused the ball to be palmed off into the side of the net causing an eruption of celebration in the centre circle! What a game, this now puts us 2nd and unfortunately Oxted weren't able to take any points off Godstone but a top 3 finish is still very much achievable. Not only that but we have also scored the most goals in the whole of the Redhill league and also have the best goal difference in the league. We now have 2 weeks off so enjoy it and we'll be back on the 21st to continue our quest for a top 3 finish.
