We knew we were in for a tough game against a solid Caterham Pumas Legends who are a big physical side with very quick forwards. The start of the game fell our way with Tulley finding Chris Wigley at the back post early doors and he made no mistake. The early goal only served to wind the Caterham team up and they ran us ragged for the rest of the half with Reigate struggling to distribute the ball and get a passing game going. Despite a strong showing from the back 4 keeping everything out it was only a matter of time and Caterham managed to get 3 goals before the half time whistle due to us not being able to keep the ball in their half, distribute the ball properly and made a few vital errors at the back which were pounced upon by the quick strikers of the opposition.
Despite it being 3-1 at half time we weren't shaken and knew we could get back into the game. Danny came on for Mikey shortly before the break and then Mikey returned to the field on the wing when Lewis came off and Rob Wigley went into centre back to deal with the opposing strikers pace and that tactical change worked wonders with all of Caterham's early chances dealt with and then Danny was brought down when causing chaos in the opposition box. Rob put the penalty away comfortably and shortly after that Danny put in some more good work and found Chris Wigley in the box to put in his 2nd. By this point, despite the referees constantly poor decisions allowing them to be as physical as possible but pulling us up for everything we were on top. Caterham had given up the ghost with the strikers not getting a sniff and the legs starting to go in the middle and shortly it was 4. The ball bounced around the box from a corner and Danny found himself with the ball outside the box and put a wonderful strike in, curling the ball into the top corner. Then more controversy when Alex Smith was started on yet somehow got booked himself and then Rob Wigley made one of the best tackles you'll see this season yet the referee sent him off!!! We made the tactical decision to bring Lewis back into the middle and revert the wingers into wing backs and that left an already struggling Caterham front line with nowhere to go. The 5th came from another corner when Mikey was able to flick the ball on to Wigley at the back post and despite not knowing much about it he turned the ball in at the back post for his hat-trick. Gillett then replaced Paul and missed a glorious chance to make it 6 before Danny did make it 6 on the counter attack being left with a 1 on 1 with the keeper and he walked it round the keeper before strolling into the net with the ball.
Certainly a game of 2 halves, we were poor in the first half, lumping the ball, running into the by lines rather than passing the ball back inside and it was poor from everyone. The 2nd half was miles better with the tactical substitutions working a treat, Danny providing a lot of output being able to hold the ball up and bring others into the game and the whole team raised their game. Chris Wigley got man of the match for his hat-trick!
