Ben Stonham produced an amazing display of clinical finishing to give Real Rosehill an emphatic 7 - 1 win over top of the table Bevendean Athletic. Helped by his strike partner James Sharp they amassed all SEVEN goals between them with Ben Stonham scoring FIVE, a club record!
The game was tight with both sides not wanting to give anything away. Bevendean won a penalty on 20 minutes following a good tackle by Ryan Cunnington, referees have given penalties for less. The Bevendean striker scuffed the ball past the left hand post with the ball bobbling a number of times, go a long way to see a worst penalty than that!
On 35 minutes Real opened the scoring with a good team move with Ben slotting the ball past the keeper. Real consolidated until the stroke of half time when a defensive mix up again cost Real dearly.
Bevendean were a very physical side and some of the Real Rosehill youngsters found it tough going but started to forget about the tough tackles and gave as good as they got.
This showed in the 55th minute when Stonham got his second with a half volley after an assist from Shrubby. Stonham got his hat trick on 60 minutes when another assist by Shrubby saw Ben become the victor of a one and one with the keeper.
A rash tackle by Ryan saw the first yellow card of the Real Rosehill season. The Bevendean number 4 also got a little excited and got booked at the same time for dissent and got his marching orders from the ref for dissent and bad language.
As with the past three Real Rosehill games their game got better with 30 minutes to go.
Ben got the goal of the game with an audacious lob on 65 minutes from the right hand side of the pitch from 20 yards looping over the goalies head, pure class!!!
The Real fitness started to show even more with Ben's 5th goal on 66 with an excellent team move assisted by Whitty.
James Sharp added two in the 84th and 86th minutes to secure an emphatic and well deserved win.
If Real Rosehill played the whole match like they did in the last 30 minutes of this game then they are going to go places.
An excellent team display all round, played a passing game when needed, were hard and physical when required and dug deep with resilience when needed.
Man of the match was Ben Stonham for his five goal wonder display with his 4 goals in 8 minutes unbelievable!! :)
Onto next weeks game away to Deportivo La Bib and Tucker at Waterhall.
A final special mention of good luck to the Hollingbury golf juniors in their competition on Monday in Hampshire. Real Rosehill have 4 of their squad, James Sharp, Max Derkson, Dan Shrubb and Charlie Tomsett representing Hollingbury in a high class junior event - GOOD LUCK LADS!
