Finally, after over two months, football finally returns, and a North Wilts Cup quarter final at that, and to spice it up even more it’s against Liden, who beat Purton last year in the semi final, after a penalty shoot out.
With only 11 players available, Jake and Dan both cup tied, and Andrew serving the first of his 2 match suspension, it was going to be a tough match, but after 5mins Matty Grabe rounded the Liden goalie to put Purton 1 up.
Liden appeared to be winning all the 50 balls, however, Purton were starting to turn up the heat. James Denton came close with a header after 7mins, Matt turns a defender and goalie saves. James Winfield hits the crossbar from a header, Toby puts the ball in the back of the net, for it only to be disallowed as offside. Finally, Ryan plays Toby through, and puts the ball in the net, legally this time,2-0 (11mins).
Liden go on the attack and James W clears off the line, another shot on goal and Tom pulls off a great save. Goalmouth scramble, but Tom pulls off, not one, but 3 saves.
Purton go on the counter, Ryan shoots from the edge of the box, Goal 3-0, (26mins), sort of effort he practices all the time at training.
Louie makes it 4-0 after a good run and shoots pass the Liden goalkeeper. (28 mins)
Another great passing move but Toby misses from outside of the box.
Liden go on the attack, shot on goal. 4-1 (37mins).
Surely last year’s match wasn’t going to repeat itself, but Matt makes it 5-1 just before half time.
Second half, Liden get a free kick, but another great save from Tom. Fraser is man marking Liden’s main goal threat, and plays him out of the game.
After the first half 6 goal fest, the second half came nowhere in comparison, with no further goals scored. However Purton have now put away last year’s ghost and it's full steam into semi final.
