A scrapy start to the match, not the usual flowing football from Purton of late. Then again Calne are always a tough team to play against, always pressurizing. Their number 5 had a hell of a throw and caused the Purton defence problems early doors.
Purton go on the counter attack Matt has a shot on goal and a good save from the Calne goalie. Matty Grabe has another shot, which is blocked, but Louis Spalding picks up the rebound and scores. 1 nil Purton (5mins)
Calne kept fighting for every ball, win a corner, and from it, the ball is crossed in, right across the Purton goal, and is headed in back post. 1-1 (10mins).
Calne were having more of the play, Purton were certainly not firing on all cylinders yet. Calne win a free kick, which splits Purton defence, leaving Tom one on one with the Calne forward, and did enough to put the attacker off who shoots wide.
Matty battles through midfield, puts ball past goalie. 2-1 Purton (20).
Still, Calne kept causing problems and were not going down without a fight. A long ball from Calne caused problems in the Purton defence, a heavy back pass to Tom was cut out by the Calne striker, who then slotted the ball into the Purton net. 2-2 (23).
Purton were creating chances, Charlie whips ball across the Calne penalty area, but goes to waste as there's no one in the box to convert the chance. Louis has a good shot on goal which brings out a good save, again, from the Calne Goalkeeper.
After 37 minutes, Purton make their first substition and switch things around. Jay comes on for Charlie. Toby moves to attack, Andrew right midfield, Jay in defence. This had a positive affect on the team and started to play their own game. Andrew puts a good ball through to Matty, who whips a ball in and ends up in the top far corner. Purton lead 3-2 (39)
Matty has another shot on goal which brings out another good save from the Calne goalie, and gives away a corner. Ryan takes the resulting corner and finds Fraser at the back post to head it in. 4-2 (40). And that's how it stayed up to half time.
Second half, more substitions by Purton, Declan on for Tom in goal and Sam on for Jake in defence.
Calne, still, were not lying down, and kept applying the pressure, winning two corners on the trot. 15 minutes into half Dan comes on for Ryan. Andrew wins the ball on the wing takes a shot and ball goes over the bar. Yet again Calne go on the attack, another long ball from midfield causes the Purton defence problems, a bit of a mix up and scramble in the penalty box leads to Calne winning a penalty, which was converted 4-3 (59)
It was going to be a long half, however Dan put Matty through to make it 5-3 (62). and grab his third of the match.
James Denton came on for Toby 25 minutes into half. Calne, again on the counter, were through the Purton defence, leaving Declan one on one, who won the ball and cleared it successfully. Fraser has a shot on goal, but the ball goes past the post. Matty whips a cross into the Calne 6 yard box, Dan gets a foot to it but just can't guide the ball into the net.
That's how the match finished, 5-3 to Purton. The Purton boys won ugly today, but it's 3 points in the bag, however full credit to Calne who battled it out for the full 80 minutes. Well done to Matt Grabe for his hat trick.
