Making history is defined as doing something that will be remembered widely for a long time. To make a difference;
to change the world in which we live.
It is rare that a sporting event goes does down in history.
However on a cold November Sunday morning, a Sunday League team claimed a victory that will be remembered for longer
than Daniel Prowses sexual conquests.
Letchworth Albion, whose early season form had been likened to that of a tortoise on death row, had been enduring a torrid
run of results. To make matters worse, their only win of the season had been scrubbed out mid week due to the opposing team
going into financial liquidation.
It was therefore unlikely that their opponents in White Horse Arlesey would offer much respite in finding solitude.
What then unfolded undoubtely has changed the world in which we live.
The albion started brightly and found themselves 1-0 up with Mathew Morritto curling in an equisite effort from long range.
A lack of celebration from the joker of the pack suggested that today was a make or break fixture for the albion.
Throughout their turbulent existance, Albion have become synonomous with defending that would even make Jose Bosingwa blush.
However, today a back four of Ed Greenhill, Rhys Merchant, Ryan Sweeney & Daniel Prowse looked unusually comfortable at back.
Even Grant Whittaker fooled the crowd into looking like a semi-professional footballer - pulling off some smart saves to deny
a potent Arlesey front three.
The lead soon doubled, again with Morritto amongst the goals as a deflected shot looped over an exceptionally poor Arlesey
keeper.
Arlesey pulled one back second later to make it 2-1 but midfield maestro Tony Davies then restored order with a classy finish from
close range. Rikki Holland then got inadvertently in on the action as a stray cross managed to nestle itself into the bottom corner.
To this day I still cannot understand how it went in.
Half Time - Letchworth Albion 4 - 1 White Horse Arlesey
The second half started in a cagey manner with both teams going close to further the scoring.
Substitute Porno Ian then seemingly put the game beyond the reach of Arlesey with a cheeky finish to make it 5-1.
However, the Albion then turned their attention to the other end of the pitch in giving Arlesey a soft goal following a boozy
goal kick from Keeper Grantanamo Whittaker.
Ian Holyer, who had been quiet throughout the match, then stepped to put the result beyond question - making it 6-2.
The game boiled over mid way through the second half with the opposing manager keen to impose his ignorance on the match. Abuse
at aimed at Rob Curry, who was exceptional throughout, only spurred on the winger to score a sublime goal after jinking past three
of the arlesey back four. Rob's subsequent celebration in front of the fat mess of a manager was applauded by all.
