Back to league action today as the second half of the season started against opponents Waterloo who had been the only team so far to beat the Heyside team.
Heyside were soon on the attack and took a deserved lead in the 6th minute as Matty pounced on a loose ball after good work by Jack and fired home despite the Waterloo keeper getting his finger tips to the ball.
Lennon and Joel were again in commanding form at the back but George had to be on his toes to save well as a good effort on goal came in from the Waterloo attack.
Right on the stroke of half time Ryan coolly slotted the ball in the back of the net from Jack’s corner – a great time to score and well deserved following another good performance.
Two nil to Heyside at half time and although the boys hadn’t performed at their best it was a fair reflection of the game so far. Luke and Jake had come on and both done well, Louis as usual was causing problems on the wing and Jack and Matty were both working hard and threatening the Waterloo goal.
The second half followed a similar pattern with Heyside pressing for more goals but Waterloo again tested George from distance and forced a great save from him as he pushed the ball away for a corner.
At times the boys showed how good they can be as on 3 or 4 occasions good passing from all the team led to chances to add to their goal tally. They were finally rewarded as neat play from Ryan and Jack put Louis through on goal and he sealed the points with a fierce shot past the keeper.
News then filtered through that nearest rivals Clayton had lost their first match of the day which again stretched our lead at the top of the table and set up 2 massive games against them next week!
MOM: At times some great stuff from the lads today but they are all capable of much more!!! Jake was again outstanding today and clinched the award despite strong claims from all the team. Well done everyone – same result next week will do nicely!!!
