After an extended Christmas break due to the awful weather we were back in action at Wright Robinson in the quarter final of the Division 3 Cup.
Ridge Hill were our opponents again having met in our last league game which had ended in a resounding 5-0 victory to the Heyside team.
Within a minute of the kick off Heyside were awarded a penalty and Lennon stepped up to smash home his first goal of the season. After our previous result you might have expected the flood gates to open but on this occasion Ridge Hill gave a much improved display and soon called George into action in the Heyside goal.
There were two outstanding performances from Joel and Louis but everyone did well in parts and the game could and should have been won as chances went begging before Louis capped his display by putting Heyside 2-0 up with a clinical finish past the Ridge Hill keeper.
Credit to the opposition as they fought back in determined fashion and after coming back to tie the game up at 2-2 could have gone on to win the game.
At the other end though a surging run from Joel almost put Heyside back in the lead but the game ended in stalemate with the tie to be decided by the result of the A team game to follow.
A superb performance by the A team saw the aggregate score finish in a thumping 14-2 victory to Heyside with a semi final date to come in 3 weeks against Withington Rangers.
Back to league action next week as the second half of the season commences – repeat our first half results and we win the league so it’s vital that we get back to our best and consolidate our lead at the top of the table!!
MOM: Everyone was good in parts but Louis and Joel stood out today and Louis was a worthy recipient of the award. (Well he will be when Luke brings the trophy back!!!).
