Matt Finish!!!
Second Half Fight-Back Seals Points
A barnstorming second half display saw Heyside take the points against Mossley Juniors coming out on top by four goals to two in an exciting game at Wright Robinson Sports College.
The first half was disappointing as a couple of defensive lapses allowed Mossley to seize the initiative and take a two goal lead into the half time interval. We had improved as the half wore on and chances were being created which showed that we were far from being out of the game. Jack was working tirelessly in midfield and combined well with Louis who again was a real threat down the right flank. Ryan also forced the keeper to save well just before the break so as the second half got underway we were confident that we could still get something from the game.
With the wind at their backs the Heyside team were soon on the attack and almost immediately from the restart Matty controlled a loose ball with his chest and fired home an unstoppable shot past the keeper to send the fans wild (well his Mum at least!!!).
Jack then brought the scores level at 2-2 with one of the goals of the season as he fired home a fantastic effort from well outside the area. (Shame you missed it Jimmy – happy birthday!!!)
You could see from then on that there was only going to be one winner as we had gained in confidence and Mossley were clearly rattled having quickly surrendered their two goal lead. A defensive mix up ended with an unfortunate own goal from Mossley as the keeper and his defence were pressured by the Heyside forwards.
Jack almost did it again when his shot from even further out than his goal smashed against the post - the ball rebounding back to Jack for another attempt such was the force of his shot!!!.
The match was sealed with another goal from Matty who, after being put through following great play from Ryan, forced the ball home from close range after he had stumbled slightly with his first attempt.
A great win for the boys which helped to extend our lead at the top of the league – bad luck to Mossley who were again a credit to their coaches.
MOM: Luke had a super game today. He played some lovely passes and I don’t think he wasted the ball once through the entire game. Jack was awesome but the most pleasing aspect for me were the contributions from Luke, Ryan and Jake who all played as well if not better than in any game to date. The fact that we got back to 2-2 with both Louis and Joel off the field shows what a great effort it was by all of the team today with skipper Lennon setting a fine example to his team-mates. A special mention also to George who was feeling really unwell but still wanted to play and again played his part in the victory.
