We're on our way to Wembley !!!

An excellent performance from a particularly well turned out Guide Post team (resplendent in their new strips which arrived just four weeks late !!!) saw them lay SIEGE to the Berwick goal with only the heroics of the excellent Berwick keeper keeping the score down to 3. This does not tell the full tale as Berwick with no subs showed themselves to be a good footballing team with some excellent individuals and no real weaknesses in the side - they should be strong given that they play three divisions higher than their hosts. This difference in league status was not evident however as Guide Post dominated possession from the start lead on the day by the excellent Ross Moore. Ross captained the side as a former Berwick player he was clearly highly motivated to get the desired victory.

The home side created three good chances in the first five minutes with Aaron then Reece Bosomworth then Ross all coming close to scoring. It took a further 15 mins however to beat the excellent Berwick keeper with a great piece of interplay down the left between Callum, Aaron and George which saw Callum break through into the box and coolly slip the ball low the left of the keeper to open the score.

George was puuting in a hard shift up front alone and on 26 minutes he outpaced the lone defender onto a through ball then rounded the keeper only to see his shot cleared off the line.

On 28 minutes the excellent Andrew Robson intercepted yet another pass and drove down the right wing outpacing the defence before knocking in a cross to Ross at the front post who had his shot saved.

The half ended 1 - 0 but Guide Post had at least 65% of the possession and all of the shots with Liam untested other than to field a few long balls. The game was still in the balance. Grant replaced George up front and Liam Besford came into midfield with Callum moving wide to replace Aaron.

The defence of Adam Dixon, Reece Brown, Jack Taylor and Andrew Robson had been outstanding in the first half much of this was due to the unselfish play of Ryan Young sitting just in front of the back four and helping to snuff out any threats from Berwick.

On 41 minutes Liam Besford had a shot cleared off the line and was making some great runs from midfield.

Guide Post survived a scare  on 55 minutes when a pass from Ryan was intercepted and the Berwick centre forward was in on goal. Liam Halliday showed great positional play to challenge the striker forcing him wide and preventing any kind of scoring chance.

Adam Boyd replaced Reece Bosomworth on 56 minutes and it was good to see that he showed little sign of his recurring thigh injury.

On 60 minutes Guide Post got their just rewards with a second goal involving some quick interplay between Liam Besford who fed Jack Taylor down the left who in turn threaded a perfect pass in to Grant who showed instinctive finishing talents sliding the ball past the keeper.

Guide Post were now totally in control of the game and the Berwick keeper was in constant action. Shots from Liam Besford, Ross and Grant were all saved until a solo goal off some class from Adam Dixon got the third. Picking the ball up in the centre circle from a clearance Adam slid past two Berwick players before shooting from 30 yards over the stranded keeper into the roof of the net.

Further chances followed and the score could have cranked up further. Connor and Lee both made late entries onto the pitch in last five minutes before the final whistle.

A fine victory and an excellent positive performance from a Guide Post team growing in strength and confidence. Man of the match was the outstanding Andrew Robson who played with such energy that it seemed as though he must have had a full bag of blue smarties before the game!!!!!!!!!!!
